I believe that everyone here is a new recruit.
Don't worry, the TTU Chess Club is a light-hearted.
Chess is a prestigious nonathletic sport, some play it because its fun and others play because of the mental and reputational benefits
I wont bore you with the details, but if you would like learn more, scroll down to read about the statistics and other benefits of playing chess!
Primarily, chess is considered prestigious under the eyes of colleges and employers, but were not an aggressive club! (of course you can be if you would like to be). It's really all of us just playing chess when we want to and getting better at it over time!
There are several interfaces for the chess club. We have a massive discord with a chess bot but, I personally would wait until you get used to our online routine.
We do several things, firstly we DO meet f2f, but since there is quite a bit of us, we have to schedule groups
secondly, a club favorite has become chess.com and small discord groups where it's easier to focus. There's also a discord with the president, me and the vice president which just recently became active again because the TTU chess branch reached out and wanted to separate into an online branch, were still working on getting all our members, so its not as active or populated quite yet.

The average American has an average IQ of 100, but according to a census of child and young adult phycologists, if someone 19 and begins playing a single game of chess a day, within 60 days, their IQ will increase by at least 8.5 points. Continuing this pattern is hard to do, but within a few years, the average IQ increases by 20 points on average.
Moderate chess players (those who play one or twice a month for long periods of time, have an average IQ of 110, they notice improved memory, grades, mathematical ability, logic, deductive skills, focus/ attention span and even eyesight.
graduate colleges, certain jobs and recently med schools are scouting Chess club participants, statistics even saying that you are more likely to get hired, or accepted into med schools, 34% more likely than a physical sport according to the college BR of 2019.
The chess club is affiliated with a data analysis online position job called Skyrocket, who also vouches that they are far more likely to hire someone who is a good chess player.
