Achilles becomes consumed by his grievance against Hector and the Trojans after Patroclus' death, though that's a more heroic and tragic form of obsession. I'll count it, though, if you want.

Victor Frankenstein got what he deserved for playing God. Although I'd have more sympathy for Adam if he hadn't killed Victor's little brother.
