I've gone beyond anger with these people, I'm at full blown confusion. How hard is it to say "I'm about to order lunch, I'll call you back in a few minutes"?

Special mention to the black people who do this at their own job, when they are on the clock. If you use a lot of parking garages, you see this all the god damn time. And again, if you have a question or need their input, they furrow their brow and act like you're an asshole for taking them away from their call.

it's a parasocial thing. celebrities are marketed to be people you admire, most normies are susceptible to this. that's why the talk show circuit exists, and it's also why celebrities basically get disqualified from public life if they do something unsavory enough. a celebrity has to have the appeal of somebody you want to be friends with, which hooks normies into the same kind of social impulses you have with a friend, i.e., keeping up with what's going on in their life, hearing their thoughts on things, etc.
