Andreaschoice and Deziredbeauty as well as a few others struck me as escorts.

They pretended to make beauty and fashion videos but it seemed like they were advertising themselves. Both lived in LA in luxury apartments and had money rolling in. YouTube didn't pay that much.

This was years before the "my life as a stripper" channels became popular. Nevermind being an escort.

I wouldn't be surprised if Michelle Phan did it too early in her "beauty guru" career

Prostitution had more of a stigma back then and it's pretty obvious several of them posed as beauty gurus to conceal it.

Why?
You seem to think early YouTube didn't pay very much, therefore these women needed to prostitute themselves to earn an income. It was actually easier to earn money on YouTube pre-2017. Any channel could monetize immediately, receiving a 55%/45% split, with the majority going to the channel owner.
Even if these channels couldn't earn much from YouTube for whatever reason, there are many other ways for women to create an income that don't involve escorting.

YouTube paid better but they were living well over their social blade estimates (the site that told you approximately how much a YouTube made a month). They had luxury apartments in L.A and vacationed constantly. It just seemed a little too much like the only fans girls and sugar babies today only back then there was a social stigma to do it where as now it's normalized that some women want to make a loving this way.
