I've been on the hunt for some earrings for my Mum. She has rheumatoid arthritis and keeps losing earrings because she can't put them in her ears properly and they fall out and disappear forever. It's been causing her a lot of distress because she's lost several good earrings this way, and not to to put too fine a point on it, she and Dad are on a limited income and they're too poor to replace them. I spent a lot of time researching different types of earrings and came to the conclusion that a style called 'leverback'- where the top part hooks in like a shepherd's crook and the bottom part closes on the crook- would be reasonably easy to put in and fasten closed with the limited movement in her hand.
I've been lurking on eBay and found a couple nice pairs that would suit Mum, but my brother, who's contributing half of the payment, has voted them down. Today I went to the mall and hit up five different jewellery stores and finally found a pair of pearl and gold filigree drop leverbacks, lovely. Yes, they're still a bit out of price range, but I don't mind contributing a little extra, specially since they were already discounted half price.
Mum deserves nice things. It makes me happy when I can give her them.
