Ehh... I can't fault Chris too much on this. Back when I wore glasses, my lenses were thick as fuck. Designer frames tended to be thinner, and if they got bent they couldn't hold in the lenses. Plus, I was wearing them every waking moment and the ugly glasses stand up to wear-and-tear better than stylish ones. So yeah, I can think of some practical reasons a teenager might want glasses like that.
Of course, my solution was to switch to contacts the second my doctor and parents would let me.

If you get the free glasses with no co-pay on most health insurance plans they're old man glasses.
Nice looking glasses cost money, and DOES BOB LOOK LIKE HE'S MADE OUT OF MONEY? Look it's either the nice glasses or dinner at McDonalds, your choice.

I'd wear the old man glasses. The thing is it would be ironically cause I'm cool like that. Also it'd only be for like a day. He did it until like 2010.
