Holidays in Ukraine

So I’m stepping out of my cozy North American town to travel the European continent for a few months, and I’m going to make it a point to spend up a month in Ukraine’s capital. What behaviour & gestures would you think to be best in trying to uplift the people in a country going through a war at this scale? Should I simply leave large sums of money as ‘tips’, wherever I go?

I will be passing through Warsaw to catch a train into Ukraine. I am sure I will spend a night or two around the Poles as well.

A mix of boredom, disregard for my life & just the fact of doing something so ludicrous that people wonder if I have head screwed on right.

Obviously if you're going somewhere corrupt its best having even a basic grasp of the language to stop people scamming you, if you can having someone native to help you out with stuff would help you avoid this. Since you said you're only going to Kyiv you wouldn't need to go to the same extents as people who go to genuinely dangerous places but it wouldn't hurt having someone in the US you can check in with every day in case you get hit by a cruise missile or kidnapped so they can report you missing.

I left Ukraine long ago and cannot fathom anyone wishing to spend time in the backwater hellhole that is my birth homeland.



Corrupt government. Shitty policies that do nothing for Ukrainians while angering all our neighbors. Food is uninteresting. Unattractive sex prospects. All of this before the threat of fucking Russian attack. Just... why go there?

How was / is your time there. What have you done and seen? How does the war impact daily live in Kiev and why did you decide to work in Ukraine out of all places? Does Kiev seem void of young people or would you say the ratio of young to old is similar to america?
