Have You Ever Shoplifted?

I walked out of a grocery store years ago with some fried chicken, because sometimes you want fried chicken. Got in the car, noticed I hadn't paid (I had been on a phone call the entire time), and did what any normal person would do. I went back in and paid for it. It's not that hard to do.

Lmao I work in retail and fuck you if you shoplift. The only people I see doing it are white trash, spics, and niggers. You're not Robin Hood, you're a fucking NIGGER stealing lash glue and t-shirts. GTFO.
Also, if you think you "got away" with it, you didn't. You're on the CCTV. The manager has your appearance written down on a Post-It note. Thanks for fucking up our inventory systems too and stopping me from helping actual customers who want to actually buy something.

I know a girl that was shocked and appalled when I offhandedly mentioned that I stream shows online but at the same time steals "small" stuff at those self-service checkouts regularly. Apparently it's super common with her friends too.

When I worked in retail I hated shoplifters but only because my boss and older coworkers would take it insanely seriously and complain about it during my entire lunch break when we caught / saw but couldn't catch them when I just truly did not give a shit about it.

I often downgrade the prices of similarly looking articles of bakery, fruit and vegetables at self-checkout registers

No regrets
I recently went to the same grocery 3 times in a row and had something not scan properly at self checkout. Each time, the attendant manually rung the item up and accidentally put the price as under $1. Was pretty sweet getting $12 of meat for 12 cents and nearly free 6 packs of cider twice though. I dont think it counts as stealing if the attendant fucks up and you don’t say anything about it.

I used to shoplift pretty much my entire teen years. It didn’t have anything to do with thrill, I just grew up with very little money and in my angry teenager mind I felt like I still deserve nice things even if I can’t afford them.

I got caught 3 times but the worst consequence I got was 3 days of community service. It honestly felt like a joke, especially considering my average haul was around 200-300€. Not a deterrent at all.

I stopped a few weeks before my 18 birthday, because I didn’t want to have anything on my permanent record in case I got caught as an adult.

I did steal one more thing after that, mostly out of nostalgia and a “still got it” kind of thing, as I was talking to an old friend about our teen years. It’s a silly little cat figure that I got next to some old pictures now.

My Mom one time accidentally left the store with an item she forgot to pay, it was a pretty small item, and the thing didn't ring, I wonder why it didn't ring.

My first foray in shoplifting was when I stole a princess crown from Clair’s when I was 10 years old. I was taken aback by the cubic zirconia diamonds and the plastic rubies, sapphires, and emeralds called my name. I thankfully had a big shopping bag from Limited Too and swept royal jewel into my bag inconspicuously whilst the moody teenage jewel merchant at castle Clair was not looking.

I used to steal makeup from the store all the time when I was a teenager because it was so expensive but I stopped doing it as an adult because I'm afraid to go to jail 😂

Anti-theft devices are never 100% effective. Sometimes the sensor doesn’t read the tag, or the tag was defective, or even the store’s security system could have been lowkey down and they didn’t want to let everyone know. It happens.

I thought I had done the same thing one time; I had one of those roast chickens during a big shop and forgot to take it off the hook to scan it and went back to my car before I realised.

I went back and explained what happened at the customer desk; they checked, and it turns out I had put it in manually through the screen and just didn't realise. They were more thankful than anything. I live in an area where if you see the wall of shoplifters, it's usually the White trash; it kind of makes me low-key happy it's only whites with a sprinkle of one black person in there.

I did for a while in highschool. My "friends" handed me the bag before we left. I didn't realize it was because I would get on trouble if we got caught. We did get caught.

My "friends" also put all the blame on me and lied and said it was all my idea. Then they got mad because I gave the cop their names and one of their addresses.

Lol, fuck them. I wasn't going to get all the punishment and take all the blame.

when the store is owned by muzz and chinese, shoplifting becomes the only way of payment
same if store has an abnormal amount of migrant workers

When I was a freshman in college, there was a Taco Bell in the student center near. One night I decided to get something off their dollar menu (those were the days), and the whole place was mostly empty. The night clerk came out, took my order, gave me my food, then walked back into the kitchen. The expectation was to then pay at a separate register since it was a small food court, but there was no one there. Like the little moralfag I was, I waited for someone to come out for five minutes...but no one came out. I shrugged and left.

"Stealing from rich business owners"

What redditors fail to realize is that businesses, especially big ones already have provision against losses. You can ask any accountant. The shoplifter isn't really hurting the big bad rich people, but the blue collar worker that will be blamed for the missing merchandise, either by letting it happen or actually accused of stealing it himself

You should not take what's not given to you

Never stole anything in my life. When I grew up shoplifting was sort of a "right of passage" for teenagers, but I never did it. Not because I was chicken, or afraid I would get caught, but because stealing is wrong.

Even as a teenager, I had a strong dislike for people who think that society's rules don't apply to them. I still do.

No, but I did steal several toys in kindergarten and didn’t get caught.

Shoplifting is the teenage equivalent of not returning the shopping cart to the cart corral.

Not quite "shoplifted" but I'm the reason why the Freshco in my town uses a Sharpie to draw over discount stickers because I switched one to something I wanted to buy to make it cheaper.

Protip: you are not as sneaky as you think you are. They have you identified on CCTV(the domes are not the only place they have cameras) and often they are not acting because they are building a case against you, waiting to steal several times or steal enough to push it from misdemeanor to felony. If you want to be a criminal, atleast make real money from it, and not go to prison for stealing perfumes and shit from Walmart.
