So there isn't a thread for this sort of thing from what I've seen but I'm thinking about getting a haircut! Any suggestions? I'm thinking about a short bob, not too short to look dyke-ish, but just enough so that it's a little bit below the chin. What hairstyles do you like?

My hair is a law unto itself and in a morning I tend to look like late stage Kate bush, so I’m interested in this thread.
My advice would be don’t skimp on it if you’re doing a drastic cut. Go somewhere good and stalk their instagram to see what their results are. If your hair is very long, it will bounce up once the weight is removed - the risk with a bob is they cut it too short, and you end up looking like a mushroom, but if it’s a decent place and you have the right hair a Bob can be nice

With my sidepart, I'm thinking something like this-

Long hair is so hard to wash, especially when it gets greasy the second it's exposed to outside air, so it's good to consider!

I want to get my hair done so bad, I have references saved that aren't unrealistic or impossible for my hair. The only issue I'm having is trusting a stylist. Most times I've gotten my hair cut and wanted something specific, they've done the complete opposite because they didn't think it would look good. As if Im not the one paying for my haircut.

Anywho, this one of the references I had saved for what I'm going for.

The layered look is super cute, but I'm absolutely sure that it's gonna be a bitch to style afterward.
It will be. Generally those sorts of haircuts need you to do blow outs constantly, and or using curling irons / straighteners depending. It also only stays looking good for as long as you're not actively living life. Going outside and it being a windy or rainy day is enough to mess up that cut.

Personally I'm the unfortunate type with thin straight hair and so many cool things just do not work out well so I'm sticking to long hair and various updos. I miss getting a new and refreshing haircut. But then all the upkeep for shorter hair also isn't worth it to me. Ah, the struggles of the hair-styled...

Moid (please don't shoot) seeking womens' perspective here. I've been growing my hair out for close to 8 years now and I think I'm about over having hair down to my ass. I'm about to donate a good portion of it to Locks of Love, but I still plan on leaving some length to it. What are some hairstyles the ladies of the Farms would recommend or that you find attractive?

I tried to get a men's perspective and every suggestion lead to looking like an anime character or a bum. I'm looking for something suitable for a man in his early 30s who wants to somewhat look like he finally has his shit together. My hair is pretty thick and tends to immediately curl once it starts to dry. No catastrophic hair loss patterns yet (fingers crossed), but I'm starting to get a slight widow's peak. Preferably something that complements a clean shave, I start getting pretty wooly once the beard comes in.

Also @Valstrax I believe you answered a question I had a while back about keeping up with maintaining hair and product recommendations, it has worked out well. Cheers for that.

Please excuse the weeb references, but what do you call these types of bangs?

I love when my bangs are longest in the middle, go up shortest around my eyes, and then have longer face-framing fringe at the sides. I’ve always called these “M bangs” myself, but is there an actual term for them? I’m hoping that if I learn the real term for them, I’ll be able to find some better real-person references and tutorials. The closest I’ve found is “V bangs” but those are more angular and extreme. One picture from v bangs works, but I don’t get any more results like this from searching for “soft v bangs” or related. Occasionally I’ll find what I’m looking for when just searching bangs in general.

Late, maybe you have already cut your hair. 😅
I love that you're donating it!
Personally I think this sort of hair looks good. But I'm not sure it's what you're looking for.

idk this is just how I'd have my hair if I were a man.

I'm a big fan of growing my hair long then cutting it short every 2-3 years. It took me a good three rounds of this with my current stylist before she would boldly hack it off as short as I wanted. I take the hairdresser's side on this though: from their perspective, its vastly more common for someone to come in asking for a dramatic change then calm down a week later and despise their new cut. So sticking with one hairdresser helps since they'll get to know you and build mutual trust over time.

I get that, but at the same time I don't think cutting my hair one way when I asked for another is professional. You can mention it before my cut. I get that they know best, and hair is hair it will grow back, but it's the principle of you at least having the decency to say something before doing whatever you want with my hair. Otherwise, I'm not at all against suggesting something else that would better suit me.

Also I dont get people who stomp back to the salon if they don't like a cut. Like you got what you payed for. I've gotten cuts I didn't like but I just let my hair grow back out and called it a day.

I was told by a stylist that since I have very thick long curly hair to NOT get layers as they will make my hair even more thick and poofy looking. Another stylist said the opposite and that layers work for thick curly hair. Wtf. How can both things be true?

And yo for real is there ANY hair cut out there for lazy women with long thick curly hair? I kinda gave up and just get trims at Great Clips.

given her recent popularity, i just wanted to say how cute Alysa Liu's raccoon stripes are.

dyed hair can be really tacky and i don't usually like it, but her's is an exception.

I intend to leave 7-8 inches. Hair is extremely curly to the point it grows up instead of down for the first 6 inches or so.
Lucky you! Channel late 80s Tim Booth perhaps? IMG_5288.jpeg
Edited to add - this is something instagram is good for. Search for something like ‘nes hairstyles curly mid length’ and post a few here that you like and which would work with your har? We can then brutally critique then for you. Just don’t get a broccoli cut, whatever you do.

Ostatnio edytowane:
Yeah no broccoli cut please. But it depends, are you pretty normative looking to conventionally handsome? Do the short sides and longer top IF your hair is wavy and thick but not curly. Are you a chub with a big pork head or maybe a brown? Do the Nandor aerobics cut look (but this looks super good with a beard)

I wanna do something with my hair, too. Don't know what though. It's been the same boring shoulder length style since I left highschool. It was waist length for years before that. I really miss that length, but I found it very difficult to maintain. I naturally have thick hair that is very prone to getting frizzy, and if I don't get it thinned every few months it becomes so time consuming work to wash, dry, and style.
