Recently I saw my niece watching a show with one of these. An executive producer Dan Schneider title-card dropped on a show (not Icarly) and I and her mother didn't really like that given his history.

I'd rather her watch something else, but as I am a man and I have no idea what a 9-12 year old would like to watch that is good and is not full of weird stuff, I need the advice of women. This thread can serve as a discussion of good TV shows for girls and as a place to nostalgically reminiscence about stuff you used to like when you were little.

FYI I bought her Spirited Away by Miyazaki because I've heard that is really damn good and she liked it a lot but she has watched it like 50 times at this point. She used to like Bluey but she grew out of that. She also watched Avatar the Last Airbender and liked it quite a bit but again she has watched it a ton.

I'd go looking elsewhere for an answer for this question but reddit would suggest something with a bunch of weirdo stuff like gay parents or gender ideology/pronouns. I am prepared to be made fun of for asking this question on a drama forum of all places but I don't know where else to look. Death of the internet and all that.

Thank for any responses

what do you seriously think makes your childhood favorites or interests different than hers, other than datedness maybe?

Miraculous Ladybug is pretty good. The French aren't quite as culturally captured as the Anglos, so they still put out quality content. It's also pretty unabashed with the wholesome girl meets boy story line. Which shouldn't be unusual, but sadly is in the hellscape of modern entertainment where everyone has to be homosexual.

On the subject of very good French shows for children, Code Lyoko is "fun for the whole family". A pretty well thought out story for the adults, action for the boys and personal/emotional drama for the girls. It came out at a time when there was usually just one screen in the household so everyone had to watch something that was good. Though the computer generated scenes will seem dated to the kids. Was cutting edge at the time though.

Round The Twist is an Australian kids series from the '90s about a family who live in a lighthouse, and they have all this weird supernatural stuff happen to them. Many people consider it a classic show. imo it still holds up and always will unless kids stop enjoying spooky stories (which I can't see happening any time soon).

The only problem with Round The Twist is that you'll get the theme tune stuck in your head for days.

If your niece has even a passing interest in supernatural themes, she'll probably enjoy it.

Ostatnio edytowane:
Requiem for a Dream. A great movie from 2000 that will make your daughter think twice about doing drugs.

Dancing at the Blue Iguana. Another great film from 2000 that will keep her off the pole, which should be the goal of any good father.

As Told By Ginger, All Grown Up, Avatar the Last Airbender, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (the og, never seen the new one), That’s So Raven
That’s if she doesn’t mind older stuff, I know some kids might not be okay with that lol
Movies…16 Candles, the Breakfast Club, Tuck Everlasting, The Hunger Games

The stuff I used to like that she also likes has already been watched.
What's wrong with iCarly?
Weird Feet Fetishism seriously though there are enormous amounts of scenes and plots that are really creepy in hindsight.

If you'd like a more in depth explanation I suggest reading up on Dan Schnieder.

Make fun of me if you will but this is the only place I could think to look that wouldn't suggest weird stuff. I knew before I made this thread people would probably make fun of me, but I still wished to ask so.

She used to like ladybug, but doesn't anymore.

Tv shows:
Little House on the Prairie
The Waltons
I'll see if she likes some of these thank you I appreciate the suggestions.

I know Dan Schneider is a weirdo, but I still don't get why you wouldn't let a kid watch iCarly.
Many years ago I was at my nieces home and they were watching some Disney show with a young Arianna Grande. In it, she was at some 50's like diner sitting at a booth. Arianna was sitting next to a young guy and the story required him to hide her and he hid her by shoving her head in his crotch. I was shocked at the image. It was so obviously sexual grooming on camera. The chick from iCarly is totally Hollyweird groomed. Look carefully and critcially at so much of what is presented.

You can't unsee it.

Look where we are now. When you look back at shows like Full House and other shows, it's so grossly obvious.

I share the same sentiments with you and have no problem admitting that there’s plenty my kids won’t be watching because of its creators, the weird shit they sneak in the show, any sort of focus on LGBT character or themes, etc.
Doesn’t matter if the kids don’t see or understand it at the time, they could even be picking up the things they see subliminally. I’m willing to bet that there were more than a few foot paraphiliacs created when they saw weird sexual shit being done to young girls feet.

If her parents don't care about her seeing the occasional scene of adult characters drinking and they don't have religious objections to cartoon witches, Flying Witch is a perfectly wholesome supernatural slice-of-life anime with girl characters but no surprise fanservice.

The only downside of Flying Witch is that it only ever got one 12-episode season back in 2016 even though there's enough manga for at least two more seasons by now.

I loved Tangled and Brave as a kid. I never understood how Frozen got so popular when those 2 were way better to me. I also enjoyed some of the older Disney sitcoms like Suite Life of Zach and Cody. Also the 3 High School Musical movies.
Brave was hard to understand for "critics" (gay men). They really couldn't comprehend the social dynamics between a Man and His wife. Or how this would play out when the daughter enters a rebellious phase. You know, since they don't have to share a roof with females. Or kids who are biologically theirs and not purchased toys.

Plus the central theme, that Merida needed to grow up and realize being an adult meant assuming social responsibility and not acting like a child was super plus not good for "the parties" messaging. Her younger brothers acting the fools were the foil to this, underscoring how juvenile her behavior was. But as you get older, what is harmless juvenile behavior can very quickly become an utter calamity for you and the people most close to you. No, the party insists young people be socially maladjusted agents of chaos dependent on the State.

Brave is a good movie btw.
