Games that aged well

Any XCOM game that isn't The Bureau or Chimera Squad. I've replayed the reboot several times, but I cannot deal with either of those; The Bureau's playstyle just don't fit, and Chimera Squad is just... whatever it is.

Would Left 4 Dead/it's sequel count already? I've played many zombie shooters, nothing else gets me as giddy like L4D2 anymore.

It hasn't aged well in its level design after learning Sandy Peterson made the most of it. (Map 9, 10, 27 are probably his best ones even if they're ugly looking).
But the monsters felt just right to the point where even the best players can still struggle against the mid-tier strongest enemies.

I see that no one has mentioned Silent Hill 2 & 3 yet. Graphics still hold up and soundtracks contain a few bangers as well as good chill ambient pieces. I hear that the voice acting can be off, especially in 2, but it's never really bothered me much.

By aging well I take it to mean ‘relatively speaking’ and not necessarily dismissing based on old graphics etc

Gunstar Heroes (Genesis/Megadrive).

28 years old and as a platform shooter I’m yet to see anything so cohesive across the board; with great sound, graphical effects on an 8-bit cartridge well before its time and non-stop boss rush action.

I also concur with Ico (PS2) above.

I replayed the first three Ratchet and Clank games back when the coof first started, in my opinion they're still solid third-person platformers although that may be the nostalgia talking.

Final Fantasy VI, Mario 64 and Contra III are games that aged really well. I first played them in the 2010s and didn't think they were too old to be enjoyable.

tbh, I dislike the idea that a game can age well or badly, if you enjoyed it back then the game is still the same, so you should be able to enjoy it the same if your taste is the same.
I get what people mean, but a game's pros and cons will always be the same no matter how old it is

Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger.

Some people what a FF6 remake, but I think the game looks perfect as is and looks great as a 16 bit game. I can't see it in 3D with voices.

Live a Live also, which is excellent. Like the Captain Square Mini Game and the last chapter you play. Also the character you play as is a villain that is done seriously well.

A runner up, despite the horrible translation, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town on the GBA.

True. Most of the fixed camera angles used in the classic RE games tended to be the camera angles mostly commonly used in horror movies from the 70's and 80's.

Resident Evil remake has no right to look as good as it does for a game that's 20 next year, it's stll the pinicle of the Resident Evil gameplay style and the king of the 2D pre-rendered backdrop.

Amazing to think it came out only two years after Code: Veronica on a platform from the same gen.

Honestly, I never minded the voice acting in 2, Angela is an example I remember being brought up in terms of bad voice acting, but considering how she is and what happened to her, I thought her voice was actually kinda fitting.

I agree with this one, but how exactly was the translation bad? Honest question. If the OG Mineral Town’s was considered terrible then the remake’s is even worse.
