Back on direct topic: I don't get @fionatheconartist at all. I understand (somewhat) the things tumblrinas do, but in her case, she's relatively attractive, doesn't seem to have crippling autism (despite her claims), and could do much better with her life than dropping out of college and spending time making pages of fictional characters that she claims to be in her head. I know its not a mental disorder she's got either, its a trend among her age group, but I always assumed the people who did this were fugly introverts raised in non-stop cartoon and anime childhood in the 2000s. Am I wrong? Has this weird meta-referencing nerdy Tumblr shit infected people who otherwise could have been relatively normal people?

What a weird world this Tumblrverse is. Gatekeeping is a wonderful thing in music. See children, there used to be (and still is in Europe and the rest of the world) this term called "posers". In metal (especially thrash metal, new school or old) it means that you don't fit in, you don't like the music, or you like weak bands and pretend to like thrash. You used to get the holy living shit kicked out of you for doing this. That is a form of music gatekeeping that needs a big comeback here in the USA.

I was wondering the same thing. My honest guess is that she does have some sort mental illness, perhaps a mild anxiety disorder that causes her to seek other disorders as "excuses" for her behavior. There's a word for that sort of thing, but I forgot what it is.

From what I can tell, she was a typical anime/yaoi/"nerd" girl until a switch flipped - right around the time she graduated high school. After that, it could very well be that her anxiety caused her to look for any excuse she could find to not enter "the real world" of having a 9-5, since for whatever reason she was clearly not college bound. So since then it looks like she's been gathering mental disorders and syndromes so that she can continue begging from tumblr and borrowing money from her friends.

Also interesting that she described herself as poor yet her parents seem to have lived in a pretty nice house.

HA! That would be a sight. Thankfully I *THINK* some of the "ironic-hipster nerd" stuff is dying out in the kids these days. But if I'm wrong and we get another decade of that shit, it won't be acoustic guitars...it'll be ukuleles and xylophones doing covers of Britney Spears songs (or whatever is being liked 'ironically' at that point) with the words changed lazily to feature Chris-chan.

There are new stages of embarrassing fads in people these days. Before it was the weeb phase, with drawing shitty anime art and freaking out over each new translation of a manga page. That hasn't died out, I've known a few people that have grown in and out of it. But there's almost like a stigma towards it nowadays, like the "tumblr artstyle" is the new version of the "animu-only artstyle," except somehow tumblr artstyle is better.
