Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Discussion - News and Lore Yappin, Griefers GTFO

Make sure you can hold out until the HD Remaster Final Fantasy VII Ultima Collector's Bundle, with all 3 games and DLC's included, to launch exclusively with the release of the PS7. It will also go nicely with the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII Remake: Remake where they can finally tell the real story of FF7 Remake without the technical limitations of the PS4.

That is a lot of fuckin' DLC.
A lot of times they add placeholdrs for more than anticipated during planning stages, so I assume a decent amount will get removed.

So fucking glad they're doing simul release this time. I'm hoping it means there won't be any stupid features that were required to push the PS5s feedback controllers now that only served to drag down cool scenes.

At this point I hope I live long enough to play this thing. I won't buy it until it is finished.
I'm just going to say what has been said a lot. DO NOT try to play through all three games in one go. The first 2 combined are probably 150 hours or more. So far it looks like Revelations is another big one.

Fuck at this point just buy the dam things now. by the time you finish part 3 will be out.

I'm at the tail end of the first game and I'm debating of doing my usual of completing all the quests at least, but I'm tempted to just hit the Shinra HQ and be done with it. I actually enjoyed a lot of how they fleshed out characters and gave a good modern visual representation of Midgar, but I already know the story is about to nosedive into wacky Marvel-tier shit. Aside from the nu-lore that was added, the slight deviation to how smaller events played out was a nice way to add something new for people already familiar with FFVII. Making an entire game based around a section that originally only lasted a few hours was a bold choice, but I feel it landed well. It made me realize just how many things I associate to the identity of the game were front-loaded into Midgar. From what I've heard, the second game has a lot of bloat and I'm not hyped to get into it.

For the open world bloat I'd suggest doing it only in small sessions. If you do it all at the same time it gets tiring fast. In my first run I tried completing each zone as soon as I unlocked them and doing that almost made me drop the game at gongaga

It's a bit of a shame cause the main quests are fun but the part where you get to the Costa del sol and gold saucer has way too many mini games back to back.

I'd also suggest adding the mod that remove yellow paint. The climbing spots are obvious enough and I find it insulting how retarded they think players are.

The story takes what used to be a straightforward plot and turns it into a convoluted mess in the name of world building. Sometimes, it works when building up Wutai as a faction, but more often than not, it messes with certain iconic scenes that, to avoid spoilers, are at the end of the game. Also it adds a multiverse plot and much like the MCU, it lets characters that otherwise would be dead to not be dead. Which often got me to say, "Isn't anyone in this story actually dead?!" Also, characterization, much like in Remake, are made less subtle and makes characters less interesting as a result. Red XIII is the biggest victim as he straight-up changes voice actors at some point.

The minigames are either very good or very bad. Piano Hero is very good because getting good at that game requires learning the melody for timed inputs, but Gears and Gambits/Fort Condor is very very bad. They are restricted RTS games via ATB gauge and you lose in the event of a tie, so you have to figure out how to spam spawns faster than the AI, which leads to a tedious experience. The chocobo races are revamped to essentially be MarioKart lite. I found it tough, but fair, but I don't like racing games in general. A lot of thought went into making Queen's Blood as a game, but I'd rather set it on easy (like I do with Gwent) so I can finish the quests associated with it, which I can't do unless I look for mods.

The combat is fine generally, but forced party selection is worse than in Remake. Being forced to use Cait Sith is really annoying on hard because he's a red mage character, but burns through MP during his required fights and he doesn't have a natural way to regenerate MP like Aerith or (much later) Cloud. In later chapters, multiple boss fights get stacked one after the other and you're forced to use party members the game thinks you need. While that was also true in Remake, Remake had less characters and less complexity because the original game also intended those parties in that order. Forced party use problems are further magnified by the final boss as it is a fight that requires multiple phases and during the fight, your party switches the further you progress. It also goes on for far too long and whatever dramatic elements it has gets watered down compared to the original game's plot point. The Synergy skills are a nice way to show how teamwork shores up the weaknesses of characters and the Synergy abilities are a pseudo-limit break system. It's a good addition to the combat system.

Anyways, I came here to both write a Steam review draft and to ask which Nexus mods I should add. Obviously, I want to make Hard mode easier, but I don't want to break the game outright (although some of these boss fights really make me want to cheat hard).

I'm divided over various gameplay upgrades and unlimited MP.

Red XIII is the biggest victim as he straight-up changes voice actors at some point.
Max Mittelman actually does both voices, and this matches his change in speaking in the OG that didn't come across well when it was translated. I do get why some think it's 'cringe,' but it's always been there. I will agree Gears and Gambits is the worst of all the minigames though. I think the upgrades mod may break it a bit too much for my taste unless you just want to bust out Hard mode for the sake of it, but unlimited MP should be ok and it's also in the streamlined progression update they gave the game in June.
I really don’t like this talk of a clothing-based system to build your own ”jobs.” Isn’t that exactly the role materia plays in the game?
So the idea here is to allow more versatility in play style so you can use what characters you like more. We're down one support member and there will be more deep character interactions based on party composition this time around. Presumably it's so when you want to explore these interactions, you don't feel playing a character you don't like or aren't good at is a burden by leaving one out you do like. Kind of an extrapolation of why they made dual magic materia in Rebirth so it felt less limiting.

Also from what they've said, the outfits can be visibly turned on or off and they default to off during major cutscenes to not spoil the mood. I'm hoping it will allow for more interesting OP set ups as well. They're going all in on this theme of 'freedom' for this entry.

I think you're viewing it with rose tinted glasses, in the original the whole Nanaki reveal was very similar (going from old wise dialogs to childish dialogs until there's the whole reveal about his father not being a coward). I did play with the fan translation though which is based on the japanese script.
In a way him changing voice isn't really out of character or that different, it's just in the original english translation the subtelty of it got lost. Weirdly enough I find it being one of the great improvements Rebirth did, allowing Nanaki to switch from being a fake version of himself to finally accept his true self. Something that Cloud just won't do until the lifestream sequence. (I hope we get that sequence in Revelations)

You're correct though about the story being way too padded (especially the whole gongaga and corel mines sections). The multiverse plot isn't really that similar to the MCU though, so far they just used it to show "what if" scenarios with Zack and some weird convoluted thing about a meta Aerith fighting a meta Sephiroth. I hope it sticks to that and doesn't changed into a whole "avenger assemble" thing.

which Nexus mods I should add
As I said before, the yellow paint remover mod is quite good, if you want something that make fights easier while not making them too easy, I'd suggest this one that makes the AI a bit more combative rather than watching you fight.

It seems very similar to X-2's dressphere mechanic, I guess it'll allow more specific jobs not covered by materias like dark knight or alchemist

In the MCU, there is one canon timeline and anything that deviates from it is destroyed by the TVA to prevent infinite timeline splitting. In this game, Zack's timeline is doomed because the main party died. And then Sephiroth cut the division between worlds in the final battle so that Zack and Aerith can participate in it. Zack's timeline is characters that normally would have died getting teleported into his timeline so that they don't die like Biggs and Zack. It also undercuts Aerith's death when you can use her in the final battle.

Also, do you not watch the cutscenes embedded in the final fights of these games? They absolutely do an Avengers team-up strike on the final boss as the coup de grace.

As im trying to platinum ff7 remake, the only things missing are hard playthrough related stuff in Intergrade. Fort condor minigame i enjoy but not enough to put hours upon hours on it, dont know why they decided to shove that down our throats on Rebirth and i have to beat all people again on Hard. After leveling yuffie to level cap and getting the materia build i have in mind for her, is a matter of completing the battle sim, beat Pride and Joy jr and then go beat Nero. Lastly then ill need to prepare myself for Weiss mentally and physically(because i love Dirge and i dig Weiss design) and with his defeat ill finally 100% ff7 remake and promptly can hate it more effectively.
