THAT... Is exactly why I have a hard time believing that Eurovision has endured for so long, when with that in mind, this BS should have burnt itself out a long time ago. You think any level of apathy alone would have some, SOME effect on this overall annual train-wreck of a festival of mostly massive musical cancer.

Well now that Americans think it's cool, it's all about politics. Eurovision became popular in the US via Tumblr- European users had their fun and joked about it being so gay (and this was pre-2013, so it was an actual joke rather than sexuality projection) and the American SJWs decided to roll in and say 'aha yes this is ours now!! silly europeans you gotta be culturally sensitive you racist whiteys'
What really dragged it all in (punintended) was Conchita Wurst's win in 2014. That's when they decided Eurovision needed to be PC because it was 'theirs' because 'Europe accepts trans women!! Progressive!!!!!'
Funnily enough, Conchita is a gay cis drag queen, a trashy reality TV star in Austria, and was apparently super racist at some point.
