An ex-christian & author of two books; From Faith to Reason and as I’ve mentioned above, Nonsense from the Bible (the title alone makes it sound like it’s desperately trying to emulate The God Delusion, but then again, what atheist book doesn’t)

I don’t think there was any point in Muslim history (except maybe for the pre-Islamic period but since we know next to nothing about the religion/s that came before Islam , we can’t say for sure) where they were accepting of homosexuality since the Koran is a hellva lot more clear on its anti-gay stance than the Old Testament.

One thing I've always found funny about them is that they take "this bad thing happened," or "this bad thing will come to pass" as being supportive of what was either prophesized or recorded. It would be like saying that because someone spoke of rape that they supported rape as morally right. They also normally entirely miss the point in the scripture they're citing in the process of this idiocy. The first image for example was a prophecy from the book of Zechariah that Jerusalem would reject the messiah and suffer greatly from doing so. This is something that turned out to be absolutely and empirically provably true.

I'm talking about the Jewish context that the writers/Apostles would have been living in. The Classical world had a very different view of every aspect of reproduction. In Greece there were still temple prostitutes in Jesus's day.
 
Am I the only person who thought I was so fucking superior for not believing in God, like this was an actual achievement, and despised Christianity, while somehow excusing Islam for being even worse, and then slowly came around to realizing there was literally nothing good about not believing in God, and wishing I could believe in God, and then realizing Christianity is actually a net positive for society?

I'm actually an apatheist by inclination, and usually wobble between atheism or some form of universalist deism where if there's a force out there, it doesn't give a shit which sect or religion you're in; it gives a shit if you try to be a decent human being.

I always got nettled though whenever a euphoric would only blast Christians, since if you're going to believe in no gods existing, then all of them are fair game to critique. I'm just glad you realized how much of a hypocrite you were; with that realization you proved you had more logic and reason than these smug douches.

This sort of thing reminds me of the previous post from Adamska in how this guy manages to be big douchebag. He's much bigger than originally thought since this guy still wants to rant on about how the prayer was some means of grandstanding and even when told about empathy, it's all met with "prayers don't do shit." Then again, what can one expect from someone that likely has no social grace when they get too autistic over a post.

Meanwhile, these smug douches will only care more about wanting to own some random stranger they don't know just because said rando believes in a magic sky daddy or cosmic zombie of Jewish heritage. I can get it being fair game if that rando turned out to be a raging cock that was two-faced but then we see these smug douches show how much of a jackass they end up being when they direct their idiocy at some rando that just goes "God bless" over some crisis being resolved or asking people to pray for a sick loved one. Say what you want about thoughts and prayers and mass debate on the nature and intentions of missionaries and all that, but acting a douchebag isn't much better if that was just shitting on a person whose family member got hit by something bad.

A random fact I know is that women who recently aborted were forbidden from the temples of Dionysos. It's kind of funny how Jesus also has that taboo and a lot of similar features as that God. Did Christians take a bunch of stuff from Dionysos' mythos and eventually get austically fixated on abortion?

No, I think it's fairly common among intellectually leaning people. The critical thinking causes one to question everything rather than automatically conform. I think there is the issue of rebelling against your upbringing too. It's understandable especially if you were around during the Moral Majority days. Those cynical, insane, greedy and possibly Satanic Evangelical ministers could make anyone question their faith.
I was raised very secular, my parents were both forced to go to church and found it hypocritical and judgmental. They never once took us to church or baptized us. When I was a tween I became interested in Paganism, first cringe-ass Wicca but anyways, my parents were just like lol that's cool. A lot of both Pagans and atheists I've noticed have serious mommy/daddy issues and resentments. There's a whole ex-Christian complex.
I've heard of the thing of not believing in God but being pro-Christian and seeing it as good for society. Mostly from alt righters. Not calling you alt right but it's a fairly common sentiment among them.

Anyone thinking religious wars killed more failed to read a history book in tallying up how many died in both World Wars compared to things like the Crusades. And even then, wars such as the Crusades aren't purely on religion when one considered other factors like land grabs and all that.

TBH, I wouldn't be surprised at evangelicals having hypocrites and the like in "rules for thee, but not for me." Then again, this guy's take is pretty tepid for a euphoric atheist.

Like it boggles my mind that people Believed this crap and still do along with people who are accredited scientists ( Richard Dawkins) . They either have a fourth grade level understanding of history , have dogmatic belief in it due to their euphoricness, believe in some insane conspiracy theory , or maybe there just spewing shit made up by a guy (Richard Dawkins)using his scientific background of “logic and reasoning ” to justify his shitty argument. And make idiots feel smart
 
Reminder that prophecies are always applied retroactively, and that the longer you try to fit one, the more likely you can since history repeats specific events.

Zechariah hailed from a time post Neo-Assyrian Empire and actually post captivity just from the book he's named for as 11th of the minor judges. So the concept of Jerusalem actually getting fucking yeeted wasn't entirely out of the possibility with that in mind. Also the messiah? Reminder Cyrus himself was considered one by Jews for freeing them from the shittitude that was Babylon.

It's similar to how when you make a fuckload of prophecies, eventually some come true via attrition: that's how Nostradamus pulled his shit off given like only 1/4th of them ever remotely came true out of the thousands. Only this time you're dealing with eventualities based on prior calculations and histories prior to that.

If one lunatic empire wanted your shit, and another one took you from your shit, it's not unreasonable to think it'd happen again. It's why I can make the prophecy of "And lo Ded Moroz shall clutch upon the living world once more, his icy tendrils shall crush cities and nations under its sheer cold" and probably be right in the future using geological periods of time. Ice ages do happen and I will very likely eventually have said prophecy get fulfilled via sheer period of time.

And this is why I always tune out prophecies tbh due to retroactivity and kind of just laugh at Revelation and the people who ignore Jesus even going "lol it ends when it ends, don't @ me" and think the end of all's happening in their lifetime.

These fucking people. They lash out at anyone inoffensively expressing their faith, attack figures like Mother Teresa & Gandhi (on live tv no less) and strive to remove anything vaguely religious from the public space up-to and including a memorial to those who died in WW1!!! And then they wonder why they’re “one of the most hated groups in America”. This is definitely one of the few cases where the “bigotry” they face is almost-entirely self-inflicted.

No, as others have mentioned, I think there's an intellectual component and a generational thing at play. I suspect a lot of people have had the same journey - I definitely did. Looking back, I was obnoxious about it and completely naive to any positives tha could possibly be attributed to Christianity. Looking back, it feels like a fashion trend I got swept up in.

I've gotten to a place where I now know that God exists, but that's about it so far.
