And instead of just taking the right advice of packing up the latest archive and calling it quits we got a discord full of millenials fighting over whether or not hosting is done by a fourth worlder or a tranny.
Can we just bring the Lolcow wiki back already, just something to finally end this sad mess.

Wasn't the OhInternet happening back in 2011 the reason why ED tends to have the strange life cycle it has right now? I mean sure, the meltdown was funny in the short term but the long term was disastrous.

I honestly think Girlvinyl was giving the site a mercy kill.

Internet culture was changing rapidly around the turn of the decade, the era of "edgy is cool" was dying down and the SJW movement was starting to gain momentum rapidly. ED was not going to last under those conditions for very long, and even with a more solid leader at the helm, it wouldn't stop the inevitable departure and shift of the userbase.

In fact, it's likely ED would be besieged the same way KF is now if it had lasted as a solid entity for that time. And I don't think there's the same level of stability and sheer determination to survive there as there is here.

My only real sadness is that nobody bothered to properly just archive the damn site and put it up somewhere with all the images and links intact. So much of the site is scattered or just plain gone now due to all the migrations and general loss of data.

i occoasionally check on ed every once in a while, more frequently when gg was a thing. i lurked the forums for the gg thread for awhile. after a time it was really just one furry sperg linking KiA tier non information. i didnt check it for like 7 years and i go back and everything is gone etc, i looked to see if the forum was still there, it wasnt the same obviously. i happened to see a post in the gg forum thread of a guy who was sad that all 600 pages or whatever in the gg thread were gone forever. on the off chance that guy is here and reading this, i promise you nothing of value was lost. after the first 200 or so pages it became some furfags personal blog and people reacting to it. eventually the gauntlet was thrown for him to stop posting all that boring shit or get doxed or something like that, people naturally found embarrassing shit. i dont think i checked in to find out what happened. suffice it to say there is no treasure trove of gamergate smoking guns that have been lost to history because that old thread is gone.
 
ED should just shut down already. Give it the Old Yeller treatment.

It was basically the proto-Kiwi Farms of the 2000's and now it's as dead as MySpace.

I appreciate ED for sticking around this long but there is a time where you got to understand when to throw in the towel. ED may have survived takedowns in the past but there is one foe that ED cannot defeat and that is time. Everyone runs out of time and ED is not immortal. Nothing is forever.

The other thing that killed ED was apathy. The only reason why any website survives is enough people care enough to keep it alive.
