If signatures are added -- which I'm ambivalent too because I haven't used forums for very long -- having an option under preferences to default to un/spoiled signatures I think could be a good idea.

I wouldn't mind signatures being added, it could be another way to help increase the feeling of community; for example, imagine instead of just jail bars over profile pictures, you could show solidarity with the Bossman and put #FreeBossmanJack in your signature. Possibilities for community cohesion are endless!
