I was recently watching a documentary on drunk driving accidents in Japan. Especially the one about the Tomei freeway in 1999. I also remembered the Indian guy who recently got arrested and caused the death of four people.

There was another in Japan back in 2006 with the Umi-no-Nakamichi-Oohashi incident in Fukuoka where some crazy asshole caused an car crash, family was plunged off of a bridge and this guy didn’t want to get caught so he used his friend as a decoy and lied to the police that he wasn’t driving. All while the family in the other car were injured and three of the kids in that crash drowned.

I always wondered. Do assholes who get behind the wheel of these trucks or vehicles ever feel remorse? That’s the biggest question of all because it seems like in most of these cases, the drivers either turn out to be the most unrepentant pissants, dindus, or complete retards.

Maybe some in the future do, but most I've encounter don't or they are too blacked out to realize what they are doing. There's this lady where I live who has constantly been arrested for drunk driving but the cops give her a slap on her wrist constantly. She's always blacked out on benzos and drinks a lot constantly. What's more annoying is people treat her like a joke instead of a danger and constantly go "there she goes again!" There are some rumors that the reason why she was slapped on the wrist for so long was her husband may have had something to do with it. She never struck me as the type to regret her drinking and she made an ass of herself last May when she drunkenly collapsed at her granddaughter's recital and snuck vodka in through a coffee mug. The most they ever did was recent, and they just threw her into rehab instead of suspending her license like it should have been a long time ago.

That's insane. Never in my life have I heard of someone picking up a DUI and not having their license immediately suspended.
She feels like a very rare exception, and what always bothered me was people find her funny. Making jokes about get her husband, she's drunk again etc. I still think it has something to do with her husband where she gets a slap on the wrist. But it's not a joke or "antics" when she could have plowed through someone. Yet somehow it's an unpopular opinion to some people where i live where some idiots will say they can't do anything about it because she's old which I always felt was BS

If a person is so lacking in self responsibility he would risk himself and others in drunk driving, he would certainly blame others when he inevitably kills someone.
That definitely happened with the case I’ve shown in the OP.

It’s in Japanese but the gist is simple. A then 22 year old guy (Person A) crashes and rear ends a car.

The other car had a woman and her three kids in it.

Other Car falls off the bridge and the drunk driver ran off, didn’t help and actively knew the family was drowning.

Instead called a friend of his and the friend (Person B) made it to the bridge and basically took the fall for the guy.

Woman in the other car was able to swim out and she attempted to save her kids. She wasn’t able to get them out and her three kids died.

Police caught onto the bullshit and arrested both Person A and B.

Japanese laws change hard thanks to this and the 1999 incident.

The lack of remorse in these reckless drivers in general is even to the point that some don't even need to be drunk to do that shit. And those people are even more scary.

Here's two examples of drivers being psychopaths where alcohol isn't involved:

A lot of DUIs are people driving the morning after. I’ve you’ve had a skinfull it’s very easy to still be over the limit the next morning, and also be tired as well.

Its very hard for well adjusted people to comprehend the depravity a human is capable of. Spend a few hours reading over family court cases in just your local area and you will quickly discover that there are people out there who are monsters wearing human skin.

Then of course there are the people like Bossman Jack, perennial fuck ups who would be better served by given severe beatings and forced labor for their perpetual drug use and antisocial behavior. Even if they dont "recover" they won't die or hurt anyone else. And still be useful too society.

The need for punishment itself to be withheld in favor of leniency simply enables both types of human. The monsters who know they will get away with it, and the perpetual fuck ups who cant be bothered to change because there are no consequences.

It really depends on where you live. I've been everywhere (man). I've lived in places where one DUI is an immediate suspension, no questions asked, and after I think 3 you're permanently unable to get a license ever again. I've also lived in places where it's basically catch and release and it's not uncommon to hear about someone who's on their 10th DUI.

To answer the original question, alcohol dulls your reasoning and decision-making skills. This leads one to believe that they are "fine" to drive.

Compounding that is lowered motor skills (eg - lagging response times, worse coordination) resulting from the ingestion of alcohol.

While I don't condone drunk driving, it's easy to sit on your PC and criticize this like an entitled cunt, which is what reddit is famous for, but if you haven't drank or been in that scenario, it's not something you can truly grasp.

Planning ahead and sticking to that plan is paramount. Sticking to the plan is the hardest part if you drive yourself to the pub or a friend's house, because your vehicle is already there and getting it the next day or whenever would be a pain, even if money isn't really an issue. This is why you see celebrities and athletes get DUI's despite having funds to be chauffeured around.

IMHO, alcohol is probably the worst, largely-legal drug on the planet. It causes damage both internally and externally, and only gets worse as your dependence grows.

I will say that I think the legal limit in the US of 0.08 BAC is a bit low.

For a 165 lb male, that's having a beer and two shots within an hour.

That same person consuming two beers and two shots within two hours will put them around 0.09 BAC, which is over the limit.

I would argue that old people and distracted drivers (eg - smartphone addicts) are more of a danger than someone who had a couple beers and shots with dinner, but, again, I'm not condoning the practice of driving drunk.
