[CENSORED] Donald Trump AMA gets removed on r/all, Reddit Admin u/spez damage controls on the reason

I’m going to do my best to address why the Donald Trump AMA post fell down the rankings on r/all so quickly. Despite being one of Reddit's most controversial posts ever, it was a successful AMA.

The short for answer is because of anti-cheating techniques that we have used for many years. While a post is young, the score we display is not the same as the score we sort by. We do this so that spammers, cheaters, and brigaders don’t know if their tactics are working. A vote – valid or not – appears to count, but over time the displayed score becomes more accurate. This affects all posts the same, and has for a long time.

We saw this play out again on Donald Trump’s AMA today. While the post did receive manyupvotes initially, it was also one of the most controversial posts ever on Reddit, and received nearly as many downvotes. We did work with ther/the_donald mod team to ensure this AMA ran smoothly for everyone involved.

Overall, please keep in mind the AMA was a success. It was seen by many thousands of people, generated thousands of comments on the site, and has spurred many discussions off of Reddit itself. You should know only 4% of Reddit actually visitsr/all, so this post’s ranking in that listing had practically no effect on the overall success of the AMA.

You'd think it'd be 1 vote = 1 vote but the geniuses over at reddit need to ensure goodthink at all times.

It amuses me that this completely overlooked the fact they could have just pinned the damn thing at the top like most subreddits do for important shit and overridden the up/down vote crap ranking.

Of course, that also would mean the vote score would be always visible. And boy would it make Trump mad to see his AMA not have an absurdly high upvote count...
