I really love the outline of the alcoves on the sides of the arch because it makes me think of the Bamyan Buddhas in Afghanistan, two ancient statues of the Buddha that were dynamited by the Taliban and reduced to empty alcoves. During the occupation, some Orientals recreated them with a laser projection, which does seem quite spectacular:



A fitting metaphor for Trump, I think: an illusion of a mighty being created and sustained by wealthy people, a handful of true believers, and oodles of money, one whose owners will eventually shut off and abandon, because, although they are protected by the military, the natives hate them and what they stand for.

Likewise, I don't really agree with ANTIFA all that much, but most of them aren't violent protestors.

Remember when "conservatism" involved conserving the environment? What a strange time we live in where the "conservatives" not only don't care about conservation, but actively work against it.

It's genuinely just bizarre, and definitely feels like it's gotten much worse in the Trump era of US politics. The right wing seems to have this strange compulsion now that because those filthy leftists want to protect the environment it's the right's duty to actively work to destroy it, seemingly forgetting that they also have to live here.
