Well gl on all that. It'd be nice if there was something not as bloated and disgusting as Discord. I prefer text only for that reason alone.

The client will have it's core separated from the UI so you could theoretically plug it into any kind of interface you like.
And yeah I don't like how desktop Discord is just a Chrome window, I'm using Eto.Forms which abstracts the native desktop API into a simple cross-platform API, so it'll still be cross-platform but not running in an entire browser.

Regardless of what their ToS said and how the server violated it, the fact that their PR department is going "woo we censored some nazis! love not hate!" is the primary issue. They're not saying they stopped some terrorism, they're asking lefties to suck their dick because they're doing what they want and enforcing their political ideologies on people. And for that, I do not want to associate with them anymore.
I'm so damn sick of people nitpicking this, holy shit. Like these guys were plotting a goddamn terrorist attack and Discord is still the bad guy? smh

I'm not calling them out for stopping a terrorist plot. That's a good thing, it'll always be a good thing.
The issue here is how their PR handled it. If it was just their PR department that thought this way, I'd be fine with it. But we have no way of knowing if this is just how their PR department acted or if their whole staff are seeing this as a way to enforce their political ideologies.
I never had much trust or respect for Discord in general, this is really just a final straw thing for me. A lot of American corporations are starting to get really censorship happy and I can't find it in me to trust them when they parade the decapitated heads of the people who used their service saying they burned a witch.
That's the major point here. They didn't say they stopped a terrorist, they're saying they burned a witch.

To sum it up I don't care what Discord does, I care about how their PR handles it. And they're handling it about as bad a monkey throwing their shit at people.

Were they really, though? Sounds like some fringe nut just went off to me. It was pretty spectacular, but it's not like anyone was giving that dude driving lessons in how to drive into a crowd of hambeasts.

I'm just making a client and server, I don't have the money to host a server myself, so you or anyone can take the server and host it and people can use the client to connect to it. If it's good enough maybe Null could even host an instance for movie night.
I have a feeling the farms are eventually going to need to migrate from Discord anyway, it's really only a matter of time before they go full Google and ban us too. IRC is gay and I wouldn't wish setting up an XMPP server on my worst enemy. In addition to me myself just wanting an actual good, easy, open source chat solution, I think it's about time I tried my hand at making one.
Can I use it to plan terrorism?

Someone here said that they were planning on bringing weapons to her funeral. That's what I meant.
i don't know anything about the incident you're describing, but it sounds like a "one person is being a dick"-type situation. you'd think if that was the case, they'd nuke the user, not the community's server. my understanding from Discord's great big blue image at the top of this thread is that they nuked both the server "and a number of accounts."

anyway bear in mind that banning someone from Discord does exactly as much to silence them as banning them from the Kiwi Farms. if autism falls in the forest, and nobody's around to hear it, then somebody somewhere has done the best they could.

i have absolutely no trouble understanding your position. one motive for handling it like a witch-burning is that it makes the company's position on Nazis emphatically clear, which they may have decided is to the benefit of their corporate image. not every host wants to be as permissive and jolly as Girldick Hosting, which i guess is kind of similar to Chik-Fil-A's stance, "fags have plenty of other places to eat." we may not agree with them, and we may not like fags, but as long as fags have Burger King they won't starve.

I am temporarily removing a lot of posts related to @The Fool's chat project. Null does not like it when people 'shill' on the forum, by which I mean promoting one's own projects, business interests, youtube channels, and the like, unless it's directly related to Kiwi Farms (and even then it should probably require his approval).

Plus, a lot of it is REALLY off-topic.

When Null wakes up and reviews the situation, the posts will either be:
A. Restored, and discussion of it can continue.
B. Restored, but discussion of it will not be allowed to continue in this thread.
C. Moved to their own thread.
D. Stay deleted.

For now, just stay on-topic.

Sorry, I just felt like making a statement. You're right actually, just leave them deleted. It doesn't matter much because the project's of no use to anyone right now until I get it to a usable state.

Discord. The version of Skype that doesn't make your phone want to kill itself but is unimaginably more cognitively degenerative.

He's advertising a FOSS project to counter censorship and you deleted all his his posts...

I was very concerned about the recruiting of users for an off-site project without your approval. I am github illiterate so I really had no idea what it entailed.

If it's something completely innocuous then that's my bad. Sorry folks.
