That is especially nasty, since Ratzinger's family was anti-Nazi, his cousin was murdered during the Aktion T4 for having Down Syndrome and Ratzinger was not only under the same compulsory conscription laws as any German boy of his age and time, but was also, according to his brother, rather unenthusiastic and skipped meeting and deserted at the end of the war.
