There seems to be an unspoken rule that only women are allowed to write and direct female lead superhero movies. I haven't bothered to check the exceptions, but I can't help but notice leads seem to immediately give them up and delegate them to women. Like a hot potatoe.

I suspect they do it because of Hollywood politics. Would look bad if the "empowering" female character movie was made by a guy.

While I do get it's a hard position to be in, I don't get why they keep hiring women that just aren't qualified for it. Surely even Lauren Faust would had been a better choose for a writer.

I am not playing the trivia game, but rather pointing out that modern day politics seem to be forcing their hands. If anything Elektra and Catwoman confirm my point because Elektra and Catwoman both predate the current political environment.

The point is that I suspect they are avoiding having men do female superheroes because it looks bad in the current year not that men have never done female super heroes movies ever.

I honestly can’t see Gunn going back to Marvel as well since Bob Iger is gone. I don’t know much about Disney’s new CEO, but I highly doubt Gunn want to go back to Disney after the shitshow of his initial firing.

The Wrap article also mentioned that Gunn has no plan the DCU. Gunn fucked up by picking niche characters nobody wants and he chose a character that was also coming off of a piece of shit show on CW. Say what you want about DCEU/SynderVerse, at least there was somewhat of a plan before they fucked up.

It’s really telling that the anonymous agent on the Wrap article stated that he believes Paramount/Ellison will fire Gunn.

Plot wise... It's superman and Supergirl plot.
Rescuing the pet. Just like that one resident evil movie and alien vs predator 2. Same plot. Same director.

Not many talk about them (gotg2/3)unless they're forced to defend Gunn. 1 worked because it was different. 2 and 3 were weaker and suffer the same fate Thor did. Do something new and unique, forget what made it special, assume everyone liked the quirkiness (side quest. the whole movie was a sidequest that's why it worked) and then they turned that side quest into a dlc for a main story quest and fucked the whole thing up. Gotg2/3 made Gunn feel like he's some music aficionados. Lol.

Lanterns is up next. If it fumbles the bag (big chance w/ Lindelol at the helm).

I miss Zack Snyder, When Zack Snyder made a movie, it was at least interesting. He could make a disaster and at least it was fun to talk about it.

Secondly the whole issue was one long extended 1990s shitpost. Doing everything then that couldn't have been done in the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s by DC and Marvel.

It is pretty sad this will not be replicated due to the oversight these days, newer artists being wholly uninterested in it etc. I swear there must have been a "tone down the sex appeal" memo sent out to all of them sometime post 2000.

It is extra odd that each reboot of supergirl gets less attractive.

I have seen this in other movies (not just capeshit but others), which makes me wonder if this is all done by the directors because they are disgusted by "sex appeal" or because of some arbitrary nepotism? This happened as well witht he female co-villains in the new superman movie as well, so this is a broad recurring issue.
