Let’s move away for Supergirl for a sec, as I bring you news on a much more beloved DC heroine:

We also got this image which looks to have Plastic Man and Static Shock?

Curious how this will pan out, especially seeing as it seems like they finally got the ability to mess around with Amethyst again and maybe follow up her DC shorts, please…
So long as it’s not set in the Harley Quinn universe, I am cautiously curious. Not sold yet. Just Waiting to hear if it will be good or not. The coin is in the air.

In the first Wonder Woman movie, Patty Jenkins did a great job directing her. Most of her dialogue comes from a character who exudes optimism and naivete, and Diana was a "fish out of water" type character, which works great for a foreign actress in a big blockbuster movie for Western audiences.
Which makes me ask the question: What happened? Patty did fine in the first movie. What changed? From what I heard, Patty had less supervision. Thus, everything can be blamed on her.

Plas... Maybe.
Uniform makes me think Elongated Man.

Those googles are definitely Plastic Man, not to mention the belt piece and hairdo.
Yeah, I guess they would want to change his uniform.
His regular one is... Questionable.

To my knowledge, a lot of the first Wonder Woman movie was blueprinted by Zack Snyder's ideas. By the time WW84 was being made, Snyder was already out of the picture of the DCEU, and Patty Jenkins' only knowledge of Wonder Woman was clearly just the Lynda Carter show.

Don't get me wrong, a lighthearted romp of a Wonder Woman movie like the Lynda Carter show wouldn't be unwelcomed from me ... But oh my goodness is it ever tonal whiplash from the first movie and the rest of the DCEU. Also, the screenplay sucks a big one, and the movie is too damn long!

It's actually amazing how WW84 torpedoed Patty Jenkins' career. She's doing absolutely nothing these days. Perhaps she is just the kind of filmmaker who works best with other people's ideas and material. Given total control, we get disasters like WW84.

By the way, Zack Snyder is an interesting filmmaker. A lot of the movies he writes and directs are shit, but in my opinion, the man has a lot of good ideas for movies. Sucker Punch, for example ... I see what the man was going for in that movie ... But the execution is a muddled and nonsensical mess. But ... An effort was made. lol.

Then we have the first Wonder Woman movie. It was Snyder's ideas with a competent filmmaker, and it's a legit good movie. Zack Snyder should really just be a dude who pitches his movies to studios and has other people make them for him.

I could buy Snyder had a lot of say in the movie. But the one thing that makes me doubt he should get that much credit is the fact that the first Wonder Woman movie is just too idealistic to be his.

For example, the whole “I believe in love” speech is too traditional and too idealistic, to be something that came from the man that wanted to deconstruct superheroes. It’s just not his style. Perhaps it was a joint effort. My guess is that he brought the ideas and she kept the heart.

Snyder is someone who can execute other people's ideas well but every time he has to do something completely original, it is shit. Look at Rebel Moon. It is Star Wars but worse. I think the best example of all his flaws can be seen in the term "Scargiver". Sounds badass, right? Well, ask yourself what it means though. Someone who lives a mark on the enemy. Very badass, no? Not really. Scars are closed wounds that one recovered from. "Scargiver" is someone who failed to kill the enemy and now that enemy is going to retaliate. It is a name that sounds awesome until you think about it seriously.

It is a microcosm of Snyder's directing. He can't come up with much original stuff and what he does come up with is bad when you think about it. The moment he deviates from the idea and has to think for himself, it sucks. The DCEU relied too much on him.

For example, the whole “I believe in love” speech is too traditional and too idealistic, to be something that came from the man that wanted to deconstruct superheroes. It’s just not his style. Perhaps it was a joint effort. My guess is that he brought the ideas and she kept the heart.
I imagine that he was asked to tone that shit down after BvS.

I'm like 30 pages and months behind in this thread but in t-minus 30 minutes my hood nigga friends and I are walking into Supergirl. currently in the gas station parking lot splitting up a case of colt 45 malt liquor to shove into our coats that we are wearing in the middle of the summer to smuggle beer into this movie

Israel flew too close to the sun trying to make Gadot a superstar.

She is moderately tall. Merced is barely five feet tall. She looks younger than Milly Alcock, yet Supergirl's supposed to be a delinquent.
This is not Hawkgirl.
This is Hawkgirl. Stop browning redheads. I'm so tired.
For a show aimed at a younger audience I hope it does well. PuffyAmiYumi for the OP is promising.

Clayface had a test screening:
>Generally positive reception.
>110 minutes runtime.
>R-rated with a lot of gore and some nudity.
>Funnier than the trailer makes it out to be.
>Completely standalone with no references to Batman, Gotham City or the greater DCU.
>Comparisons with Joker, The Substance, Vanilla Sky and The Incredible Hulk.
>No full body transformation, Matt/Clayface only shapes his limbs into weapons when in a rage for “out-of-control attacks”.
>One scene features Matt’s face melting while he’s in a plane going through turbulence, so he has to go into the bathroom and cut his eyelids open with a pair of scissors.
>The Hulk comparisons are because Clayface is a sort of split personality that manifests when Matt is angry, and because the U.S. government is after him for his powers.
>Aaron Paul has a small role as Matt’s father in a flashback sequence.

Holy shit, why even make this movie connected to the universe, or even about the DC character. This is Sony Spider-Man verse levels of plot in how they are trying to adapt a popular comic character without any of the world or the hero that makes him. He cannot even use his powers like the comics or even what is in Creature Commandos.

Supergirl 26 just looks awful. The bad CG, the muddy look that's apparently constant throughout, fuckin Aquaman returning to do his stupid "Mah man!" routine. Also that retarded dog they keep thinking is going to be the next Baby Yoda.

And despite being aimed at people under forty-five it's filled with that godawful Gen X nihilistic rage against the machine bullshit that should have died out in the '90s. Just look at the poster: "Truth. Justice. Whatever." Oh fuck off.
The clips I have seen show reason enough to avoid this movie, and why it is bombing; in part because a studio once again decided to have a completely unappealing actress lead the cast, and then go with her being as obnoxious and off-putting as possible in interviews. She went with the "ugh, this movie isn't for dumb sexist basement dwellers and Christian chud dads" sort of "fantagonism" and babbled about how Supergirl is an LGBT icon, so put that in your pipe and smoke it! and these people fail to read the room and see how that sort of deal has been audience repellant for years.

Alcock is also hideous, she looks like a pre-teen mongoloid at age 26, and in her interviews rolled out that really tired sort of irritating, grating and unearned #girlboss braggadocio, where it's supposed to be supremely feminist and empowering that a woman arrogantly talks a lot of shit when her mouth is writing checks that her ass can't cash, to borrow an old phrase. Plus from what I've seen, this sort of girlbossiness carries over into her performance in front of the camera and we've had more than enough of that - part of the problem with modern would-be blockbusters is the preponderance of these overblown girlboss characters who can do anything, have mandated Mary Sue-esque "flaws" (Am I just TOO much of a badass girlboss?!?) who then spend the runtimes of these films going from point A to point B with only nominal obstacles that are usually overcome pretty easily and flatly, with a dash of convenient contrived coincidences to help.

>a few days ago someone started talking about how the animated shows seem to have more reach than many DC movies and shows
>suddenly these recent animated show announcements like Absolute Batman and others
Huh. There's a small possibility James Gunn lurks this thread.

Snyder's ideas for WW as far as I know topped out at "it's set in WW1" and the entire moronic final act with Professor Lupin being revealed as Ares. He was also apparently responsible for the depiction of Luddendorf as a cackling Nazi general caricature years before Nazis actually existed.

Jenkins is actually responsible for a good amount of WW not being total shit like toning down the whole vicious warrior woman aspect and trying to make her more along the lines of classic WW. Which is why even that movie has some weird tonal whiplash with Jenkins trying to do an old school, pre-Crisis Wonder Woman while working around Snyder's vision of Wonder Woman. She also apparently didn't like Gadot as the casting choice for WW but had no choice because of Snyder.

WW84 is actually weirdly closer in spirit to old Wonder Woman comics than the 2017 version.

A lot of what would become the Nazi party was there already. They evolved further later but it did exist in a primitive form. People forget that Lenin and his ideals influenced the National Socialists. Mainly structurally and in terms of methods but they did have roots in WW1. Don't forget that much of the Nazi command fought in during the Great War.
