I think Barb set it all up on purpose, so he'd have to depend on her, no matter what. That way he'd never be able to leave her, and she'd always have her baby with her. Think about the whole "spooning" thing. To her, it's just like holding a child, because she isn't going to let Chris grow up. It's not sexual -- it's just rocking her baby to sleep, in a way. Does that make sense? She can't stand the idea of letting him go.

Does every Chandler birthday photo have to look depressing and cheap? The Chandlers could have gone to Applebee's or somewhere more fancy in Charlottesville. But BIRTHDAYS ARE EXPENSIVE. Seeing photos like this just makes me realize that Chandler's didn't care about one another at all. None of Chris's happier moments involve Borb taking him to the zoo as a kid or something fun most people would remember their parents doing for them.

Does every Chandler birthday photo have to look depressing and cheap? The Chandlers could have gone to Applebee's or somewhere more fancy in Charlottesville. But BIRTHDAYS ARE EXPENSIVE. Seeing photos like this just makes me realize that Chandler's didn't care about one another at all. None of Chris's happier moments involve Borb taking him to the zoo as a kid or something fun most people would remember their parents doing for them.

True, true. Not white knighting Borb but they we're old parents when Chris was born, I mean, they didn't have the same energy of a young couple whose takes their children to Zoos anymore.

Those are the worst cut off jeans I've ever seen.

Is that a grease stain on his shirt? Even without the stain the shirt is obviously a bit too small since you can sort of see his gut (the angle doesn't help but I still think it's too small). Sort of reminds me of a Tourettes Guy clip where some stains (dubbed 'tit dirt') appear to be in a Mickey Mouse shape.

Maybe Chris's parent are just cheap as hell. They also perpetually think of Chris as a child. Hence the cheap, juvenile, and lazy-ass birthday preparations.

The picture of young Chris and Bob by the Christmas kind of reminds me of my grandparents on my biological father's side. Long story short my parents divorced and I only saw them about 4 times in my life and there house was always dark and uncomfortable, they had some mental issues. Sort of the opposite of the warm grandparent's who have cookies and fun stories.
It's a shame Chris had that type of place to grow up in because you know the atmosphere just compounded the issue even more.

My parents had me around their 40's. They weren't too old or anything, but they were frugal to an unhealthy degree. We very rarely went to the movies, zoo, or ice cream parlor unless their was a coupon or something. And we never went to the amusement park. It was going to the park, buying store brand ice cream out of the carton, and renting VCR movie tapes for us. However, I do remember them taking us kids to the local children's museum or Chuck-E-Cheese's for our birthdays.

My grandparents took me to the zoo when I was a kid, and they're only slightly younger than The Borb.

See? Even your grandparents are younger than The Borb. Imagine them as parents not as grandparents and taking -badly- care of lil' Chris 24/7.

To be fair, grandparents don't typically have to deal 24/7 with the everyday raising of children. They can have a few days to a few months (or even a year) between visits to recharge and relax and become fun again. That makes a lot of difference with older people, because having neurotypical, able-bodied young children is exhausting day after day after day--never mind a special needs child like Chris. Since most people's grandparents don't have to deal with them all day every day while they're still young and annoying, they can be super-fun and energetic when they DO get to see the grandbrats. And then go home and recuperate for six months.

True, but even people Borb's age can cook special meals for their grandkids on their birthday or watch a movie or TV show together with the family. I bet Chris doesn't even remember the first time he had McDonald's - which was probably a blur anyway - or his parents telling funny things that he did as a kid. The most we got was that he screeched a lot and caused havoc for his parents. There was that time when Chris said monkey at 6 weeks but that was just Barb being Barb.
