Asian palm civets are adorable
They’re also the creatures that Kopi Luwak is ‘processed’ through.
The history of Kopi Luwak is actually really interesting, it was originally created by Indonesian natives in the 19th century.
Asian Palm Civets have a knack for seeking out the ripest coffee berries, and the digestion process leaves only beans, suitable for roasting and grinding straight into coffee, rather than waiting for the pulp of the fruit to rot and leave the beans, which can take a while done properly.
It also meant that the competition over the most desirable coffee cherries between people and civets was a non issue, civets got their nutrition and food, pooped out the beans, and people got their coffee beans ready for processing. It was a good symbiosis.
Unfortunately, some asshat decided it would be a good idea to sell it to tourists, marked the price up exorbitantly and as a result, Asian Palm Civets are now battery farmed en masse to fill the demand of tourists and rich cunts. It’s a really sad situation. It’s also impossible now for any importer to find Kopi Luwak anywhere that isn’t from a battery farm. That isn’t so bad as the product is literal shit, but it shows the scale of the exploitation.
