Vai was at his best in the 80’s, and Santriani is overrated. Largely, anything more than 6-strings (or 4 on a bass) ends up muddied and would better be served by playing a drop tuning or baritone guitar. The legacy of extended range guitars will be making post-00’s metal tabbing from E-0-0-0-0-0-0 to B-0-0-0-0-0-0.
