Stop trying to create false dichotomies. I have plenty of dreams. The fact that none of them involve you somehow writing an "action novel" that doesn't suck isn't some failing on my part.

Serious question. How many pages of Alphaboy have you written? You can talk big and insult people all you want but here in the world of adults if you don't produce even the barest minimum of results you won't be taken seriously. End of story.
 
@Connor - an action novel is not necessarily doomed to fail. But there is a big difference between even an action novel and an action movie. If you want to be the next Tom Clancy that's fine, but that's not the sense I'm getting from you. I'm getting a sense that you want to create an action movie in book form. The thing is, a lot of what makes an action movie work is the visuals. Seeing an explosion on-screen has a much bigger impact on the audience than just reading "there was a massive explosion." You can try to convey that same feeling you get from seeing the explosion in text, but that's not really something a novice - and like it or not, you are a novice writer - can easily pull off.

That's part of the reason why starting writers are often told to write what they know and discouraged from writing genre fiction. It's important to develop a strong sense for the basics of writing before you start adding in extras. Writing something you're intimately familiar with means that you won't get lost in trying to figure out complicated details, like elvish politics or superhero physics, without understanding how to clearly describe a scene or convey emotion.
