Well, I'm pooped for tonight, and I'm starting to get tired. I'm just about done with the first chapter. I've got 1,493 words so far, which is just over seven pages.

But are you at the end of the first chapter where Sean Gillespie is getting on the bus to school, followed by a black four-door Audi with tinted windows?

Okay, fellas,

I'm aiming for a daily quota of ten pages, which is roughly 2500 words, depending on the number of words per page, usually around 250. So far, I have 614 words in the manuscript, with 1886 words to go. I can do this.

I mean, you're only 1,007 words short of your goal. But you can do this, right?

Just about, Kablamo. It's just that I'm burnt out for tonight. When I write this much in one day, I tend to lose mental energy. I need to chill.

I get it. I do, I'm just trying to hold you accountable to what you set out to do. It's like @Chipmunk's Bounty quoted.

Against my better judgement, I'd like to offer some casual advice.

I'm not a creative writer, most of the writing I do consists of dry literature reviews, research proposals, and interview transcripts; but 2500 words a day seems incredibly (and unrealistically) ambitious for you. Stephen King only aims for 2,000 words a day. I think your effort today was commendable, really.

I'm glad you've found the motivation to write. There is no shame in revising your goals. Don't set yourself up to fail.

Connor: score some booze, get really drunk, start writing. I believe it was Hemingway who once said "write drunk, edit sober"

The first thing you should do is change everything you have so far into single spacing and keep it that way. If you're serious about writing, that it's really your passion, even if you never intend to be published it's still worth doing right. And I, and everyone else here, can assure you that legitimately published novels are always printed single spaced.

I'm not an expert on wordmastery and books, but I don't think line spacing is the barrier standing in Connor's way on the path to literary success. It's more like a minor nitpicky thing that you can change in 2 seconds that in no circumstance is worth fretting over. Especially in the case of something that isn't being written with the intent of being published because the only person that's actually going to see the document is Connor himself so it entirely comes down to personal preference. Even if it was to be published, he can change it in 2 seconds if he wants to send it in somewhere. I for one always write my drafts right-justified using 11 point Batman Forever font with 1.5 line spacing and none of you can stop me because that's basically my lifestyle.
