So, all that autism aside, the reason why a "childbearing draft" is actually stupid is because it buys into the false assumption that perpetual population growth is both necessary and desirable. This same belief is why we in the west have uncontrolled immigration; populations in western countries would be in a mild decline without it, so immigration is encouraged by the state and corporate oligarchs in order to maintain the appearance of growth (and also to suppress worker wages by flooding the labour market, which increases profits).

Such a decline is not a bad thing; it's a sign that the population has reached the limits of sustainability and is contracting to a more reasonable level. Population boom/bust cycles have happened before. Rather than trying to artificially prop up the profits of enormous multinationals (which is what the perpetual growth thing is always about, in the end), we should have allowed our populations to naturally contract. To do so now will require expelling a lot of people who shouldn't be in our countries, which is going to be difficult, but necessary work.
