Basically they just pay the licence for one song and play it throughout the hour, which is significantly cheaper than paying royalties on a couple dozen songs per hour. I also think they have to play a certain amount of "canadian" music, so they just skirt around that by playing the same song over and over.
No i mean the weepy "we only do this cause we have to XD" attitude stations here have to playing Canadian music, it gets old really fast. Just put the tragically hip and rush in the bag
I have my heart set on Panama, but are there other places that people from Canada can leave for besides the U.S.?
Australia?

A place where freedom of speech still matters. Pozfailia is just as bad as this rats nest.

That basically rules out all first world countries. Now you’re looking at Poland or Japan and even those are a stretch.

You’re better off moving to Alberta and voting to separate.

I thought about driving around today with a huge ass America flag hanging off the back of my truck, but I don't want a 5 star wanted level right now. "Happy" Canada day my niggers.

Canada, your future is Detroit at its worst but as an entire nation. The US needs a giant border wall already.
You're not wrong.

I would post a Mr. Garrison and Mr. Hat image but, who didn't think that upon seeing this?

Radio after the 80s became highly corporate and no one had any leeway. They don't bother playing new or smaller Canadian bands, and they dont play anything but the same 3 tracks from the bands they have.
I [redacted] at a [redacted] non-profit station once upon a time.

The red tape strangles your soul. eg. there is (or was?) a content requirement for 10% 'International' music, which is why a ton of the smaller stations play African drum beats from 2AM to 4:30AM. The non-profits go to fundraise but they need licenses to conduct the fundraisers, and the cost of application may exceed the amount they raise. You go to play small bands, but you need explicit written permission from them, and they're often unreachable or already broken up, plus the CRTC may not recognize them as Canadian. Your financials and meetings have to be done to the same standard as a municipal government - with volunteer staff. A lot of those places just struggle to keep their spot on the spectrum. To top it all off, the sort of people who are willing to put up with that bullshit are usually socialist (and on welfare), so they're hostile to their own community, and doing anything that actually benefits the community or gives it a voice will likely get you ousted from the operation.

And it's all incredibly needless. I remember a pirate station cropped up during my tenure. They had like $1000 worth of equipment and a better location for their antenna that dwarfed ours. The town loved them. Their .mp3 playlist cost maybe $1/day to run. The only reason they got caught is because some jealous literal faggot from our 'community' station ratted them out.

The only way separation doesn’t happen is if Canada is somehow redeemable enough to justify staying.
Or the fact it isn't that popular and separatists have no plans for a standalone government or currency. They act like they can take Canadian cultural identifiers, their passports and Canadian currency. Its just not happening because its a hollow shell of a movement

The Alberta government is already capable of handling being a country, literally how provinces are designed to operate. It’s mostly a matter of spoiling up some organizations like a dedicated postal system and that can be done during the process of separation. And we can easily use the US dollar as our main currency, or just use the Canadian one which Carny will be grateful for as all albertans cashing in their Canadian dollars would crash its value.

Over the last decade Mike Duggan managed to turn a crime ridden city in decline since the 80s into one with positive population growth and declining crime rates. Detroit is growing, and I couldn't be more proud. Turns out all you need is someone who gives a fuck.
And then he left the democratic party and Detroit promptly elected a black female democrat, so good luck with that.

You need to check your naivety. For one a good chunk of provincial funding is federally supplied, even for Alberta. Healthcare is the big one, but basic infrastructure factors in alongside shared strategies for taxes, mail, pensions, rural policing, and extraneous services like border control and background checks.

You also overlook adopting a foreign currency isn't a simple decision. Ecuador is often treated as the example given they use USD, but doing so means you are beholden to a foreign central bank, have no control over their decisions, and could quickly see serious economic problems should said currency nosedive.

I'm all for an independent Alberta, however the belief in the process being effortless and a net benefit out of the gate need to be checked because there is a lot of autistic details which aren't simple to deal with and are details being conveniently ignored by the smooth brained currently running the separatist movement.

And where do you think Canada gets its money from? Or do you think that the entirety of Canada’s taxpayers are funding Alberta without a single tax dollar being spent on other provinces? When Alberta leaves Alberta will be taking its taxpayers with it, and Alberta taxpayers pay more then the national average.

1. Nobody expects separation to be instantaneous. At bare minimum there will be at least a year to set everything up, possibly multiple years.

2. America is Alberta’s biggest trade partner, using its currency makes perfect sense. And Albertans won’t be forced to immediately give up their Canadian dollars as doing so would cause the dollar to immediately crash which would have major ramifications for the rest of the country.

Nobody has a switch that immediately changes everything over. It will take time and that time is accounted or in the process
