I think that this is a very simplistic understanding of what's been happening; not just in the past decade, but going even further back. I recall many people saying the exact same thing as you, but sub in "Stephen Harper," "Conservatives," and "2006." People always blame the players instead of the game. I think that there is a web of interconnected yet separate corporations, special interest groups, lobbyists, and other actors that indiscriminately use politics, politicians, and political parties to accomplish their aims, which are usually at odds with the common Canadian's desires and ideals. I think that they exploit the average Canadian's simple understanding of politics to further their goals and stall backlash.

Such a good quote. I think that this is the natural result of the "cutting down tall poppies" culture that develops in a lot of post-empire states. The cult of mediocrity is the result of decades spent punishing achievement and talent. The average Canadians is an envious, vindictive type of loser that hates seeing his neighbours' success. People that are good at stuff get ragged on until they feel too self-conscious to stand out from the crowd, or until they get fed up and emigrate.

Once you are seen as a loser in politics you are done. PP is seen as a loser. There are a few factors in this, if he would run an actual campaign and have an actual platform he might be able to motivate voters. However, because he and the Cons are shy about doing anything that will rile up media against them, they keep as quiet as possible. Instead they don't want to be seen as racist, or American, which severely hampers their ability to put forth any policy.

In short PP is going to remain as the Cons at the moment don't have anyone else. There are no big names in the party, just a bunch of nobodies. There are no ideas, because they are afraid to present them.

You really do not know how the Canadian electoral system actually works if you think Pierre losing to Trudeau is Pierre's fault.

When a party gets less than a third of the vote but is still able to form a government, that system is rigged as fuck. It kinda reminds me about how you can cross the U.S. - Canadian land border without a passport, so long as you present a valid Indian Status card to the border officials. This one will yield significant problems if it's not squashed immediately. Biggest issue is that should the ruling stand it throws open the entirety of BC to similar suits, and standing means they too will eventually succeed. A lot of people and businesses aware of this are already hesitating on land purchases given the risk, which is partly why Eby and Ottawa both are appealing it.

The cynic in me kind of hopes the Supreme Court sides with the Chugs because you couldn't imagine a more perfect storm. No better scenario to finally force Libs and Cons both to face the music and start making hard choices.
