I guess its one thing to hear about it and another to see it in person.

And not just any gala -- the Grand Galloping Gala is basically the MLP equivalent of the Buckingham Palace Garden Party with a side order of Oscar night. Which in brony terms, translates to "Dig out your least Cheeto-dusted garment and come do this."

Holy shit. That thing makes a middle-school dance look like some highfalutin affair.

(Although, to be fair, I did kind of like the guy in the red jacket who was doing some weird ballet/waltz thing by himself...)

In the MLP TV series, the Grand Galloping Gala was a joke - A massively overhyped event that turns out to be really boring.

Actual children go to this? I mean they are the target audience, but I can't imagine any parents willing to go to this thing with them and sit through something like that for an entire day(s). Not unless they are bronies themselves.

There were quite a few families with children there. Did the parents want to go to BronyCon and just drag their kids along, or do the kids really like MLP? I don't know.

But seriously though... what was that Rainbow Riff thing?

The main characters didn't have fun because they went into it assuming it would be this amazing party that would be everything they ever wanted and jump start their careers and get them laid. And it turns out that no, it's a thing where you shake the local demigod queen's hand and mingle with the elite, and they all behave terribly and accidentally trash the place. So it's basically a formal, classy event where you can have a lot of fun if you're capable of acting like an adult.

I hate that I know this, but goddamn, the irony gets funnier the deeper you go.

I think it wasn't Mad Munchkin. It sounds like Chris left out the name deliberately so it wouldn't get back to whoever blew him off.

:powerlevel: and late but I knew Mad Munchkin IRL (I say knew as I fell out with the group she was associated with and am thus no longer associated with her) and they are most definitely a cis woman. Short (height wise) and actually quite rude but most definitely a woman.

If you showed those to someone who didn’t know Chris, I would love to hear their thoughts about the artist.

They would probably think they were a drawn by a girl in the 10-12 age range but would be confused about where the polyamory stuff came from.
