Of interest is that many disabled people would find this incredibly patronizing, bordering on using them for props.
Being in a wheelchair for a little bit is not remotely the same as living your life disabled, and to call it tasteless is an understatement.
One of my friends happens to require a wheelchair, and he commented at one point that it irritates him when people who aren't disabled discuss what disabled people do and don't need, or what should and shouldn't be done for them. He's of the opinion that it's something that should be handled "in house" so to speak, and that advocacy should be done by people with enough experience to know what they're talking about, as opposed to being handled by people running for office as a diversity talking point.

If the surgery was done more than 15 years ago you could have definitely been in a wheelchair.

Let me put it this way: I don't know if gender reassignment surgery usually puts you in a wheelchair, but I suspect third rate Mexican gender reassignment surgery might.
