You hear the word grift in regards to negative coverage of media far more often than in positive coverage. A lot of these people popped up when there was still a strong positivity bubble around a lot of this shit. There were far more people sweeping for the Star Wars sequels than attacking them. The criticism against them back then was that they were pedantic autists and butthurt fanboys who need to be more accepting of the slop. The grifter accusations started popping up when the media landscape became so rancid that mainstream audiences started dropping out and publicly voicing that they think a lot of modern releases are shit. Mauler goes over all his opinions in pretty minute detail. Making 12 hours of edited video that pull shots the actual movie in question, various positive or negative discussions around that movie, and any other misc. film that may be relevant is a bad way to grift. It requires a fuckton of editing and research. This is especially true if you're going into a lot of detail and pride yourself on objectivity. You're going to have people scouring through your vids looking for any mistakes. Before whatever breadtuber or twitter post blew the term 'grifter' up, I had always heard it used in a way that implied dishonesty. It doesn't seem to have much of a definition anymore. Just a pejorative for online figures who give opinions on things. I truly believe that E;R does not like Legend of Korra. I don't think he's putting that on.

Watching Synthetic Man is like a guilty pleasure for me tbh, I'll occasionally watch bits from his streams, rather than his videos. He's endearing to me in that special autistic, chuddy way lmao. Never cared for Mauler and E;R just lost his appeal to me. Feels too safe now.

Mauler has also repeatedly spoken about how EFAP was created as a response to the sequel trilogy's awfulness and the retards that went on to defend it. The earlier years covered a lot of sequel defenses and exposed retards like Patrick Willems, Quinton Reviews, Wisecrack, HelloGreedo, Cosmonaut, the list goes on. As you cited, he also has his own channel with really thorough research and explanation on why those movies are shit, and he's always been consistent with his standards.

If all that is a grift, it's the most high effort grift I've ever seen, specially when they avoid being political even when politics are the heart of the issue, as when they covered the that Marvel show that promoted blatant pro-illegals/anti-border/racism propaganda, while still calling out the writers for their retarded idea of "heroism" (a character being treated as a saint for doing terrorist things) and the writers' absurd idea that borders and resources can be moved around at a politician's will, and also acknowledging that the best character in the show was the US veteran that killed the terrorist after said terrorist killed his best friend.

Really, the worst thing I can say about Mauler or Fringy is that they like GOW Ragnarok. As for the other hosts, I don't really like Rags since he's an unfunny furry who brings up his atheism a bit too often for my taste. And frankly? I like Platoon most. Despite his "pretentious fag" aesthetic, he's probably the most "based" person on the group. Just have a peek at his tweets.

Yeah, the idea that people only watch reviews to reinforce their opinions on a movie is retarded.
I've become really prejudiced against whatever the current meme phrase is. I really hate the way that the 2020's form of nuspeak has taken shape. Pre-existing words are being spammed into meaningless shibboleths at an increasing rate. We're getting fucking shitty reboots in our slang and political insults too.
