Thanks Ben, without someone shining a light on irrelevant internet forums talking about minor TV show hosts being fired the powerful would keep getting away with destroying the ability of the lower classes to accumulate capital, deploying armed force against innocent people harming no one, empowering corporations with monopolies and other privileges, allowing a global elite to leech off the working class and constrain their liberties by force with applause from journalists, a constant panic by said elite's hanger-ons about "democracy" that they want to address by using the power of the state to silence dissent and limit people's choices, and other such things that totally are not important unlike someone on a forum lamenting that somebody who was employed for a long time at your employer getting fired again but by a company you really really really really hate because it ever so mildly steps out of line from your social classes singular "consensus" about the need for the lower classes to have violence deployed against them constantly.

The default backdrop for MSNBC contributors is their personal library. Some of them have large rooms filled with books and natural light that make me very jealous. Some have the hoarder look where there are books piled on other books, where it's obvious that the selection has been growing over time until it's metastasized beyond the carrying capacity of the original bookshelf. Some of them have books they've written prominently displayed behind them, most have a lot of books other people have written.
There are exceptions to this, of course. Claire McCaskill is usually in her large and pretty kitchen with a cake on the counter behind her. Neal Katyal needs a woman's touch in his living room. Nick Confessore was working out of his bedroom for a while in a way that gave me ideas. The painting that Eugene Robinson sits in front of makes me want to up my art game. Frank Figliuzzi is a deep state glowie but I like the triptych behind him. John Heilemann always has a Wu-Tang sticker somewhere in the shot. Mike Schmidt was sitting in front of an empty bookshelf for a long time, like his wife put him on time out in the attic.
But a full bookshelf? There's no wrong way to do it. It's a testament to a life of learning.
John Waters, of all people, said, "If you go home with somebody, and they don't have books, don't fuck 'em!" Dan Savage, when a teenager asks how they can get laid, tells the kid to work out and read a book.
Even though Ben's mother is a professional librarian, apparently he doesn't have any books. If he has any art, which is a big if, it's probably all mass-produced shit he got at the mall.
