At first, I thought this was a joke, but Hellena Taylor must clearly know that you can’t force fans to boycott a woman that’s been a coomer wet dream since 2015. Much like the recent Kirby game that came out months ago, Bayonetta 3 is still going to sell hot cakes, especially when you count overseas.

Taylor has almost no credits aside from some anime over a decade ago, some bit/extra shit for British TV, and the times Bayo has shown up; whereas the other VAs are all very prolific. Something is not adding up. Hellena broke her own NDA, so she can add proof. But she didn't add it, as an extra punch to whatever she's trying to do. The lawsuits are going to be huge if she's lying.

It is some weird shit. These game companies, particularly Square Enix, have been shifting towards using British theatre actors as opposed to American voice actors since they're cheaper and easier to deal with (see Babylon's Fall, The DioField Chronicle, Valkyrie Elysium, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Final Fantasy XIV, etc.). But, this looks like it's going the opposite way.

Maybe Jennifer Hale had accepted doing it for less money. I'm sure she wasn't paid that much for something like the No More Heroes series. Voice actors really didn't get paid that much twenty years or so ago for their work.

Maybe so. Even Mignogna stated that pay was low occasionally. People don't watch an animated show, an animated movie or play a video game because a certain person voices a certain characters. Voice actors are even more replaceable than live-action actors.

That being said, strange that Hale would take it considering she was one of the headliners of the pointless VA strike with Sellout Baker,, etc so if they offered her more than Helena that's really shitty.

Considering that the strike indirectly led to these big-time voice actors getting less work now, I wouldn't be suprised if Hale is just picking for opportunities now. Look at Steve Blum and his IMDB page. He hasn't been in anything with at least a little bit of interest this year.

In a podcast, Helena had said that the recording for Bayonetta 1 took 4 days, with 4 hour shifts each. Under the assumption that Bayo 3 would entail the same amount of time, I'd say 4K is pretty damn good. Just sounds like entitlement across the entire profession to me.

Recording sessions for these roles are relatively short. Blum mentioned at one point that his role as Verstael Besithia in Final Fantasy XV only took him two hours.

I wouldn't even get paid $80 if I worked for two hours at my current job.

• Demons, for all their power, also carry a risk; as they take damage, their "anger gauge" increases
• At Max Anger, Bayonetta loses control of her summon to a "Demon Rampage", where they will attack any and everything in their way
• Demons can also be "killed" in battle, rendering them inoperable for a time
• Main currency this time is Embryos, acquired from Homunculi
• Halos are now acquired through "special means" (my guess, through special verses, where Angels are located, if that post-Direct vid is anything to go by)
• No more running back and forth to Rodin's every time you want to upgrade! We now have Skill Trees we can access from the pause menu at any time, to spend Embryos!
• Demons have their OWN Skill Trees, as well, to unlock and enhance Slave and Masquerade abilities
• As a result, this game has a LOT more abilities to unlock compared to the previous games
• Unfortunately, in effort to not overwhelm newbies, this also means things like Torture Attacks are not unlocked by default
• They insure vets that they won't have to wait long to unlock Torture Attacks and other things we're used to
• Umbra Tears are BACK; this time, it's not just crows, as you can find cats and frogs, too
• Finding all Tears in a stage unlocks a secret, challenging "bonus level", where "familiar faces" appear and "mystery items" are the reward
• At the edges of each stage is a fog called "Eraser", representing the instability of the multiverse; touching it damages Bayo
• Viola doesn't blow a kiss when she clears an area, like Bayo, she throws up devil horns!
• But despite her edginess, Viola is still portrayed as an upstart, compared to Bayo
• Apparently, Viola will mainly (only?) use her katana and throwing darts
• However, her overall playstyle emphasizes more raw power compared to Bayo's
• Holding the attack buttons will charge up her swings
• Throwing darts are infinite, but require a bit more finesse compared to Bayo's guns
• Cheshire, Viola's Demon, utilizes her katana to summon; Viola loses it while Cheshire is in play

I hate to say this but again, Helena has admitted she suffers from mental issues. So she is unfortunately asking for too much. She would have been paid the same amount and 4K is not as bad as it seems BUT from what I have seen she has worked since 2014. She does a lot of stage work and theatre.

No, you're right on point. Aside from how Japan is a bountiful sea of anime and video games in general, they are that specialized in vocal training for singers and voice actors compared to the States.

In comparison, in the US, live acting is generally the mainstay while voice actors are generally chosen 100% out of born talent. Compared to Japan, voice training to allow potential voice actors to achieve their optimal abilities along with that potential work availability is practically non existent.

Fucking sucks Helena isn't coming back. It's almost enough to make me not want to get 3 now.

Nevermind that a good portion of the American voice over actors are born in California, specifically Los Angeles, followed by New York City and Dallas. That's a big advantage right there.

To also play devil’s advocate: we don’t know what she was paid for the previous games (and this isn’t quite the same issue that it’d be with Devil May Cry in that the english VAs also did motion capture for the games), it’s probably not long enough to justify more than a week or two in a recording booth, and she has next to no voice credits to her name other than bayo for in the span of 10 years whereas Grey Delisle, Yuri Lowenthal, and Dave Fennoy are all very active and thus probably bang this kind of shit out regularly and have more bargaining power.

$4000 could be a perfectly reasonable rate depending on the time investment.

I actually remember a Vtuber/Vocalloid person sperging about VA work on stream. SAG rate is $210/hr. It's per "finished hour" which isn't quite edited-down time but expect the VA to be in the booth working/ready to work. From her telling for something like a named (non-MC) character in an anime, recording for an entire season is an hour. Not "averages an hour" but SAG only lets you bill in whole-hour increments and the work is down much faster than an hour.

Assuming union rates for VA work in vidya is generous. Another good quick comparison would be recording vs. what you leave on the cutting room floor. Generally you record 10 hours raw for 1 hour of finished content. So unless Bayonetta talks for nearly two hours that $4K was a pretty solid deal.
