You mean their content? I don't remember PAX going on hiatus (unless we're talking COVID)
IIRC, and again that's a toss up, that was part of the PennyArcade "premium subscription" they were offering as a proto-patreon. There were production issues with PATV filming that I don't really fucking remember, and IIRC that was around the time they were working on their Videogame.
But it AIR it boiled down to a mix of access issues/bandwidth problems - remember at the time the video codec Youtube was using hadn't entered public domain yet so videos were limited to 10 minutes due to license requirements, and no one really had viable live streaming yet.
So they spent some time trying to unfuck, streamline and work everything into the correct "Branding".

But then bcause it was Mike And Jerry who are retards, and due to Penny Arcade no longer being the "it" thing on the scene (see: retards), it all sort of fell apart.

I was specifically talking about PATV. Also, the show was on Blip initially, which didn't have the time limit and could do HD, plus they did ads for everyone who put up a video. That's why they were able to put up longer videos (By which I mean 15 minutes) when Youtube still had the time limit.

As for Mike and Jerry, part of it was that they were in the right place at the right time, but the other was that they were autists who played literally every game in existence. So when they talked about a game, they had something to say about it. Most imitators just didn't have the time, patience, or 'work ethic' to do that and just half-assed the jokes or stole them from other gaming comics. And Mike had an art style that appealed to many people, along with the know-how that when they experimented with the strip, he could whip up something pretty good.

The problem is, that's where their positives ended. When it was time to branch out, as you said, they're retards.
