"What if".

Not to get all meta about Peepshow, but the idea that these two would have been going about their lives, wearing all the things that we the audience know clearly mark them out as "baddies", without ever actually realizing they were baddies, is almost like a sly commentary on, and subtle subversion of, the "baddies" trope. ARE they the baddies? Or is it simply that WE have been culturally and emotionally conditioned to see them as the baddies?

To put it another way: if we go to some anti-capitalist protest, do we stop and think, "hey, we're wearing black. We're looting stores and hitting Asian men with bike locks. Are we the baddies?" Or does the fact that we haven't yet experienced years of deliberate cultural programming warning us against the dangers of our current association, blind us to our baddie nature?
