Then go to the other companies’ threads.
we were talking about running other operating systems on macbooks. preferring a company like framework or lenovo over apple doesn't change the conversation.

macbooks have great performance but the operating system, ability to repair, and ecosystem make me prefer other companies.

Ability to repair means nothing when defect rates are as low as Apple’s. Lenovo is so shitty that they have even had issues where their BIOS wouldn’t allow a machine to start or wake from sleep if anything, including the packed-in charger, is plugged into the USB-C ports, when all the laptop has is USB-C ports.

I had a thinkserver that became completely bricked just by running the official firmware update following the official guides to the letter. Apple will at least test their shit and make sure it works.

Granted it was from the 32-bit uefi era and nobody knew what they were doing then.

defect rates are not the only thing that causes the need for repair. other incidents can happen that lead to repair. someone accidentally spills water or someone drops a device. going to need repairs. ive personally never had an issue with the thinkpads ive had minus just the batteries being annoying.

The "it works as long as you only do what we want you to do (but if you try to do anything else than you are fucked)" mindset that Apple has is why I stopped using Apple products.

Apple announces price increases for most of their hardware:
Kicking myself for not leaning on my teacher friend to get me a NEO at $499. Would have been nice to have an OSX machine again.

Why fuck with it? Apple Care+ covers liquid damage. And if your spending 2 or 3 grand on a macbook why wouldn't you get Apple Care?

The people who are buying in to the mac ecosystem are doing so because they don't want to actually deal with fixing computer stuff.. OSX basically takes care of itself. Its super rare to have an update screw you over unlike Windows 11 which is jeeted to hell and back. I am a cheap fuck so I deal with Debian on a beat up old Dell. But I can understand why some people want to just pay to have their tech issues taken care of.

No fucker is breaking out the microscope and solder station to "fix" a laptop. Slap some RAM or exchange SSD is the the absolute max that any laptop buyer is doing. Even the fuckwits that complain about "repairability" are passing the unit off to 3rd party repair to extract the fucking data and extract the data alone.

Laptop repairability is a fucking fallacy spoken only by the most inbread retards of the tech community.

I have just replaced the Screen on a 13" 2017 Intel Macbook Pro. I had a donor unit in a box, it took me an hour and 15 minutes. Tiny, fiddly fucking screws.

No one is heating the system board to remove IC units to transplant chips to a 2nd unit. If you are that person then you are never an apple customer, you are a Richard Stallman customer.

Buy what the fuck you want and works for you.

And the lowest price stuff Apple actually offers, like the 17e, is usable and not complete garbage a few years after release.
What I like about Apple as compared to almost every Android phone not named the Pixel turned into hot garbage after a year.

My previous iPhone I had for three years still felt fine.
