Does anyone remember this manga series called Shugo Chara? Please tell me I'm not the only one.. I used to love it in elementary school. Some of the plot was a bit weird tho

I almost never watch anime anymore, so my suggestions are going to be super old. But when I was younger I aboslutely loved Fushigi Yuugi: the Mysterious Play (which I'm sure others have mentioned). From a time when the isekai genre was fresh.

I also recommend the Twelve Kingdoms. While not overtly a "chick anime" all the women I've shown it to have loved it, whereas men have tended to not like it. The protagonist has a fantastic character arc which I think a lot of people can find relatable (being an unconfident people pleaser, becoming strong and confident after lots of struggle).

one of the earlier series i actually followed through multiple vols was black butler, it's ALMOST boys' love, which i didn't really sign up for to start with as a dude, but i stuck for the beautiful art, some banger fuckin setpieces, and cringe headcanon to make it more palatable to my tastes.

but i don't ever recall fanservice to the degree of haremshit etc, though it does have a heavy occult lean which could be a bit offensive, though it's kind of played straight instead of glorified. child abuse but it's played very straight and not fetishized i can ever recall. actually has one of the most brutal arc finales in a manga i've seen involving it. it has several very interesting male and female characters, and several really cool "filler" arcs for sub characters, one that's stuck with me surprisingly long was something like a guy with a bad past was going to let himself be executed, but the other man cut his hair instead of head and said he was reborn that day forward, then spared man became a loyal turbo badass for him.

it was setup to originally be boys love i believe, but the final product i'd recommend to most people. i suppose the 2 main character's "relationship" or tension rather could be kind of icky though with the age gap and the (mc?) being young, but their relationship by default is kind of fucked so it didn't really come across as "grooming" to me, just "other" spoiler issues. still could be a trigger or a problem. but has a lot of good "mini stories" throughout and does a good job of enough to interest male or female readers imo, more than most female/gay interest centric plots.

Watched the first episode of Awajima Hyakkei this morning and I thought it was alright. Has anyone read the manga? Is it interesting?

The Twelve Kingdoms is fucking fantastic. One of my all-time favorite shows.
You just reminded me they’re releasing English translations of the novels the show was adapted from. About to purchase book 1 from Amazon rn

Two things has anyone watched Inner chambers of the Ookuu? I really enjoyed it as a gender flipped historical drama.

And The Barbarians Bride the anime just got released, but it's got me hooked in a way i wanted to read the manga i've been really enjoying a chapter a night.

While I'm a dude, watched Kowloon Generic Romance recently which pretty clearly is meant for women (and written by one). I initially thought it was pretty cool, the artstyle was very 90s-esque and it had a cool mystery with the main male being voiced by Joseph Joestar himself Tomokazu Sugita.

Then the show devolved into a yaoi love drama between the villains, just a lot of homosexuality jumpscares, the little chinese girl turned out to be a crossdressing boy as well. Still finished it and while I think the final message was neat between Kujirai and Kudo, the overt faggotry did make it a little hard to watch. Don't know why people of either sex are so obsessed with homosexuality of the other sex. Same question I hold for male yurifags and female fujoshis.

Heidi, Girl of the Alps is one of my favourites.

It's just a wholesome anime about a girl living on a mountain with her grumpy grandfather and his goats and dog.
Alright, going on my watchlist. Been on a 70s anime kick recently and been going through Remi: Nobody's Boy, Japs just knew how to make nice comfy shows back then.

A new English volume of Yotsuba&! just dropped! Still as great as ever and totally worth the wait.

Not sure if she was discussed earlier in the thread but I'm obsessed with this one Korean lady who recreates items from magical girl shows. I think her voice is super cute too!

Halp, I got into reading Dengeki Daisy (because an anime's happening) and Mars and I have a feeling my heart's gonna be torn to shreds in them.
