Every time I see street views of New York... I just cannot help and ask myself how it is possible that city is this run down and still so expensive?

Ron Coleman and his co-defendant are making a hail-mary attempt to get the malpractice lawsuit dismissed just weeks before the trial window the case is scheduled for.
They filed a motion listing all the technical infractions the plaintiff amassed in two years of litigation, like not scheduling hearings when required to, not handing over material ahead of a jury trial, and are asking the court to sanction the plaintiff and/or dismiss the case straight up.

This all just a day after Loomer served them with another settlement offer. (I guess that did not go over so well?)

Our jobs as journalists is to REDIRECT. To consistently point to what is actually going on. It's exhausting and seems fruitless, but it's what we have to do.

This is the take of someone who does not understand journalism at a fundamental level. Journalism is about providing a hypothetical reader with stories/other writings pertinent to what interests them. It is not about redirection, or shining lights at things you think are wrong in society. It can be about those things, but a journalist that only puts focus on "what is actually going on" is not really a journalist. It's someone with an opinion trying to give you facts, or it's someone trying to convince you of something.

A real journalist will not say "this is what is actually happening" in the same way a competent scientist will not say "we know this is how something works definitively in the universe". You have ideas of how things work. You present it as best you can as soundly (ideally) as you can. If your readers think you presented something interesting and the story keeps evolving, you follow what's important to them. This is the conceptual problem with Kotaku/post-GamerGate games journalism. If you intend to cover gaming culture, you need to hire reporters that have an investment in "gaming culture", not "gaming" and "culture". Because when your entire staff is just writing culture rag garbage and Twitter summaries of announcements from gaming companies your outlet is going to eat shit quickly.

This is why as much as people meme on Geoff Keighley I harbor way less ill will towards him than most "gaming journalists". He is (or was) an actual journalist. The "final hours" series he did is legitimate, relatively valuable journalism. He set out to cover the scramble that can occur in massive video game productions right before release relatively objectively... and he did that! It's not like it was groundbreaking conceptually but it was interesting to enough people that it gave him a bigger platform. All I can gather Alyssa's ever gotten a platform from is bitching and moaning about politics and culture.
