Alex Yrigoyen (previously 'zubat') began 'The Leelah Project' shortly following the death of Leelah Alcorn, a transgender teen who committed suicide in December of 2014. Alex set up a 'non-profit' that accepted cash donations as well as donations of make-up and clothing to send to transgender women who do not have money to put toward their gender expression. She managed to get about $15,000 alone just on her gofundme.

The Leelah Project quickly gained a lot of steam. People were having fundraisers at their real schools to support it, people started sending in their spare clothes, and they even managed to get an online clothing store to donate 50% of its profits for some shirts.

Of course, there was some shady shit going on.

exposingalex started posting in earnest within the last two days, though their blog has been up for a couple of months. This post from March 30th calls into question the 'lack of funding' and the fact that no one had come forward to say they had received a package.

At the time of writing, things are getting really interesting on tumblr.

You see, Alex is a twenty-year-old who somehow works for NASA and also is a fully licensed nurse. She's 'genderqueer' and Native American.

But of course, she's a giant lying liar.

The only record of her birth is with the State of California, despite her claiming to have been born in Barcelona, Spain. She claims to be Aztec except when she's totally Cherokee. Her identity changes a lot or makes absolutely no sense.

Obviously this girl doesn't work for NASA, she's not a nurse, and she at one point claimed to be studying to be a paleontologist.

She's deleted the Leelah Project gofundme and tumblr.

tl;dr
20 year old pulls a Catch Me if You Can, takes on a bunch of improbable identities, scams $15,000 in donations meant to help trans people and her white knights still pull the 'mental illness' card for her.

It takes some kind of really special snowflakes to pull the epic "attention-getter" in the name of Tumblrdom, these days... *sigh*

Profiting from a real girl's suicide. Just when I think Tumblr can't sink any further. :(

Looking around the exposingalex tumblr, they seem to have removed an abuse post because it contained her birthname. Tumblr will be tumblr, but we should use Alexis Miller.

It really doesn't make much of a difference. Different peoples and different media always use a suicide, a wrongful death, a murder, or even genocide to further their agendas. Leelah Alcorn just so happened to fit the right description for the wrong community, and with that was bound to come forward someone bold enough to do what was obviously hitherto unthinkable: capitalise on a suicide.

This isn't a new low for Tumblr, this is pretty much expected of Tumblr at this point.

What makes me cringe about this is just how many people were gullible enough to believe that white knight's story about mental illness and overlook the fact that they've been fucked over. Close to 3000 reblogs for that post alone which completely whitewashes everything that happened. Pitiful.

Another person using a mental illness as a shield. Given that she's a serial liar, are her watchers even sure she's actually mentally ill and not just making that up to deflect criticism? Even if she is mentally ill, that doesn't excuse what she did.

Well, there's no way that this could be a scam. As this anon points out, a "non-binary" person could not possibly do something wrong.

This is why you don't go donating to just any "charity" drive.

This was far beyond just an Internet charity drive. Alexis went out in person to talk up the project and has lied about her birth place in fucking Inked Magazine.

It looks like the Twitter page still exists (ARCHIVED), though it doesn't have much on it. One tweet in particular seems pretty sinister in retrospect.

Joshua has truly been an inspiration to so many—just in a different sort of way for some folks.

also do tucutes party whenever a truscum commits suicide
From what I've seen, both the tucutes and the truscum seem to view Joshua Alcorn as this angelic, too good for this sinful Earth type individual. Of course, in the case of Alex Yrigoyen, that's the perfect type of individual around which to form a scam.

But scamming is lying and taking people's money under false pretenses plus privilege.

So she's on sugar daddy websites and she has a history of prostitution? My money (which I still have because I don't give to Tumblr charities) is on her being a drug addict. The lying, the constantly changing stories, the abusive behavior, all are symptoms of emotional disregulation, which can have many causes, of which certain drugs are one. Or it could be she's just a shitty person.

This kinda reminds of the Arkh Project a bit. Except more gross. At least the Arkh Project just scammed money out of people who wanted to see more of a certain kind of diversity in video games. This person exploited an actual person's suicide and took advantage of people who felt bad and just want to help people in Leelah's shoes.

That's right. This person is even more of a scumbag than Riley. Which I didn't think was even possible.
