But it does raise enough probable cause for actual law enforcement to start digging, should they be so inclined.

You won't see a local newspaper doing an investigation to see whether the local grocery store is repacking meat with different expiration dates or the manufacturing plant in town is disobeying workplace safety requirements. And it's because they know to expect litigation, expensive litigation from big expensive city lawyers.

If you do an investigation like this, one of two things needs to apply to you if you want to come out without losing everything: either be a real journalist supported by a good legal team and editors who will advocate for you, or have no assets to take and nothing riding on your reputation or income.
