/sp/ is in a sad state for the World Cup. While still out of habit to visit during a big event for myself all I see is seething about everything from the host countries to endless porn. The only ok threads are the late night matches that are tolerable.
I'm going to reminisce like a crusty old faggot but man, /sp/ circa the early 2010's was so much fucking fun. The 2010 WC, individual game threads. I remember Dirk and the Mavericks beating Lebron and the mods stickied a picture of crying Lebron for like a week as people spawned tons of silly photoshops and OC.
Every big sporting event was like this. The World Cup and Olympics were always big standouts too. I remember the US beating Canada in hockey in the group stages (2012 I think?) and the USA USA USA spam got so bad across the whole site that it was spread basically everywhere and mods had to shut down the party.
I remember USA BEATS ENGLAND and the endless memes that day.
I remember there was an anon who used to stream Legends of the Hidden Temple, Guts, and Double Dare on late nights and me and my friends were regulars so he gave us mos status in his chat while people shitposted about what Legend of the Hidden Temple team you repped.
I remember how alot of teams had resident tripfags and theyd bicker and shitfling in game threads and it was one of the few places on 4chan tripfagging was "acceptable."
I remember >ISHYGDDT and Costanza posting.
I remember the 4chan cup and trying to get an /sp/ GOAT FC Scarf from an anon in europe who had made them.
/sp/ was so much fucking fun. It was that pure, concentrated sports hooliganism and buffoonery and there was nowhere more fun to be on the internet for a big sporting event.
I go back now and it's just a shadow of what it is. It's all just porn and aislop spam. The lingo sucks. The memes suck. The users are mostly kids or legit schizo tier fanatics.
Sometimes you get some hooliganism but its a shadow of what it once was. The Knicks winning the finals barely lasted a day or two on the board before even the basketball people moved on and stopped caring.
I'll say what so many others in this thread have said before me; I miss board culture and hate how mods and the normalization of the internet has killed it.
/sp/ used to feel like a genuine community of hooligans.
Now its just any other sports forum except you can post porn and scream the n word.
