I don't think he honestly believed he was the one who brought us down at all. He just saw that it had gone down and seized his chance to grab some asspats.

Just about every political cause is about 99% people who sit around bitching and 1% people who do the heavy lifting, it's just that where most of them would say "We did it!", Phil is arrogant enough to say "I did it!" I think he takes the view that because he finds these things incomprehensible, so must everyone else, and so they'll believe him if he says he did it alone.
