1) a lot of shit was over-hyped for negotiation/bargaining reasons to dissuade military action ("you shouldn't bring your carrier here because I totes have this carrier killer missile that can't be stopped!").
But also for "brochure"/sales reasons ("buy S-300, yes, it stop all NATO aircraft and missiles!").
2) US and Israeli military intelligence aren't abysmal, and US commanders aren't retarded.
If you know your enemy has an asset that can threaten you, you want to either take it out first or position your forces in a way to mitigate the impact of that asset.
3) Iran's air defenses have already been degraded in 2025 and 2023.
4) The stupid boat swarm shit was a tactic known about as early as 2002, to the point an entire military exercise was set involving "some dictatorship in the Middle East" using a bunch of small boats to attack USN ships.
We've had >20 years of "yeah so if the US fights Iran they're probably going to try this" to plan accordingly.
5) "Hypersonic" means several different things, and comes with its own set of drawbacks. I could spend a page of text sperging about it but I'll leave at that.
