The added layer of irony is that the GOP establishment did the same, in a left-handed way. After the shitshow that was 2012, when insurgent candidates like Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachman were able to jam up the primary field for months thanks to the backing of a few deep-pocketed weirdos, they rebuilt the primary process for 2016 so as to ensure that a front-running candidate would lock up the nomination as quickly as possible (with Jeb Bush being the guy they mostly had in mind). Nobody planned for a scenario where the wacko insurgent candidate might also become the front-runner.

It's more that the memers in Trump 2016 weren't there for Trump 2020 whether it's because it's not as funny or they didn't like Trump as much. I know the guy who made the Can't Stump the Trump videos got annoyed with how the right never held Trump accountable for any wrongdoings..

It's a lot more fun as a shitposter to back some insurgent who pisses people off than to back some guy who turned out to be more or less as establishment as the opponent, however much the media shit itself over him. It also didn't help for most people when he pardoned a guy who literally wants to kill his followers and then chickenshitted out and condemned the very protesters he'd glowed into coming to 1/6.
All but the very dimmest of bulbs could grasp at that point what a phony the guy is.

I would also put it that there was just less funniness around him, and oversaturation. When Trump decided to run back in the day, he was saying all sorts of funny shit. For example: the small loan of a million dollars, accusing Ted Cruz's Dad of helping Lee Harvey Oswald, building a wall across the entirety of the Mexican border, Little Marco etc. But perhaps what was funniest was how he was just blowing the fuck out of these establishment picks.
Smash cut to 2020, where every funny Trump quote is now put under the microscopic lens of 24 hour news cycle day after day. Sure there were small things, like Covfefe, him asking if they could nuke a hurricane etc. But it was drastically less funny. Especially so when he was fumbling the play on the pandemic and other issues. He was no longer the rogue salesman who fumbled about. He was the Commander in Chief, and didn't do a great job with it.

and that's exactly why he won. He was anti-establishment (and still is), he's not a politican he's just Trump. - warts and all. He was a big middle-finger to all the long term lazy career politicains who have just milked the public purse their whole lives.
He could string up a baby on a bridge and the trump-tards would still vote for him.

Trump's only anti-establishment cred is really saying fuck you to Democrats and Republicans. But ever since the first government shutdown in his administration, he pretty just became another GOP Cuckservative since all the cuckservative grifters and politicians were praising Trump and the 2020 campaign was using old Republican tactics by campaigning that he is fighting against socialism rather than anything relevant. That is probably why he had less memes in 2020, since he became much more of an establishment swamp creature that he campaigned against and he only regained any anti-establishment sentiment by shitting his pants over losing.

I hear the term 'socialism' used sperg to the 10th power of autism. I really think people have no idea what it means. Everyone is putting their hand out for a check and govt assistance, yet at the same time shouting 'socialism' like a retarded banchee.
All western govt's have a lean to socialim, it's what keeps economies functioning. The USA is a long boat ride from being a Socialist country and only spergs who can't have an intelligent arguement use the term when they can't produce any logical thought.

The reason why he was funny in 2016 was because, people thought he was a meme president, he had so many memes about him. However in 2020, people uniroincally use these memes to show how much of a god emperor he is. The memes in 2016 were made because he said funny stuff but not about how great his character is. Go on any pro trump meme site, and count how many of them are made to make people agree not to make people laugh. There are people who believe that trump is fighting against blood sucking pedos, it is also convenient that most of these “pedos” are people that trump supporters don’t like.
