There is a small chance the Taliban will keep the poppies going, but this unlikely. Working with 'International drug control' (DEA) will be a legitimate revenue stream and international clout building. If the Taliban somehow manage to not completely wreck their Tuccanos & Mi-17s in the intervening period, they will use that as leverage for international support to get and keep these aircraft operational to help in drug fighting ops - and then use that expertise to use the airframes to launch airstrikes on insurgents.
The will be leaving a lot of 'dirty money' on the table, but that was not a big concern for the Taliban. They were never about exporting Jihad (except to Pakistan and Iran), and the new leadership seems much more savy about not giving anyone outside a reason to come in. They would rather have 'clean' money they can buy things with openly.

This is going to dry up the supply of opiates. Just going from how long it took for Afghan White to hit the streets, and assuming the (primarily) Russians are going to be metering their supply (fewer, higher-success smuggling ops, not longer a customs blitz) I'd guess 5 years but that's largely out my ass.

Normally this is the case, nonstop insults from the late night "comedians" and other assorted talking heads on the television and radio just taking dumps on the rural people as contemptible. Even political cartoonist couldn't help but notice the change overcoming Republicans in '15-'16. The political class and punditry are still nervous about this change and have no clue how to deal with it. In Afghanistan the rural types just smashed down the sitting cosmopolitan government a few months, nearly without resistance and the sitting governments in the West are gobsmacked by it and absolutely terrified of such things spreading like the Revolutionary wars or Communist cause. Almost every time the "right wing" in the US has decided to fly off the handle and shift to violence in the US they resoundingly defeat their enemies and the only recourse the government has is to arrest people after the fact. Whether this is street brawling against Antifa or directly challenging the Federal security apparatus like they did with the Bundy Standoff the right wing tends to humiliate the opposition. Federal fear of rural types dates back the better part of a century and can be seen in events like the Battle of Blair Mountain, I would suspect the American Civil War etched itself far deeper into the psyche of the deep state than anyone could really contextualize and the modern apparatchiks inherited these fears and mental damage but they don't understand exactly where it comes from, they just emulate the behavior of their predecessors.

The US was hamstrung in what poppy fields it could burn because those were the cash crops of various allied 'warlords' - burn the opium, make an enemy. So they only went after fields/warehouses as punishment or as a photoop (or both). Sort of like how the troops had to turn a blind eye to all the boyfucking.
During the taliban's time in power, they were burning fields and executing farmers - unless they were in a border area in which case they usually paid the Taliban protection money. The Taliban might not be able to control an area, but they could send someone to argue with the local Imam on Friday and convince the population they needed to burn the fields.
The Northern Alliance, the warlords fighting against the Taliban pre-invasion, used Opium to fund their resistance (very likely with CIA support) which is part of why the Taliban went so hard against the growers.

So unless the New Taliban™ is doing a 180 on opium, supply is going to drop and it will create a suction effect.

edit: and they are unlikely to 180 because before the invasion they were getting a few million a year for burning poppy fields.
