At this point, I honestly think it's less because they actually care about Nyberg, and more they realize how much shit they're all in. While she isn't a figurehead in this whole weird collective of assholes, she was decidedly a big link in their chain. To admit that one of them was a pedophile destroys the narrative and exposes them to the fact their shit, in fact, does stink and they are not above being investigated and criticized. They know as soon as a crack shows up in their crystalline bulwark, the cracks will continue and the years they've spent trying to create this image will implode in a matter of hours.

At this point it's less about Nyberg and more about the mental gymnastics that people go through to justify this shit. It's a shame, prior to all this dogfuckery coming out I actually though that Sarah was one of GG's most reasonable critics (and I'm saying this as someone who is pro-GG).

If I had to look at this from strictly a PR sense and putting aside my own feelings of horror and disgust defending this shit is still a bad deal. With everybody poking their nose in it unless you were 150% fucking positive and had solid evidence Sarah was just some edgy shitlord and not a bad touch larry it doesn't make sense to defend it. With this much attention if Sarah did it it'll come out, just like it did for Sick Nick and you don't want the PR shit storm of being the group busted for defending and attempting to cover up for some pedo. If they don't believe me they can go ask Subway's PR people how fun it is to play clean up for a pedo. Turn the pedo in, toss them to the wolves, and get in front of it. If nothing else, this perfectly shows how AAG literally stands for absolutely nothing that has limits set in stone. Everything is subjective, nothing is permament.

Honestly, if someone I admired and looked up to was in the middle of this kind of shitstorm, I'd actually look forward to having an article published so I can review all of the allegations and see what proof is presented. That way I have all of the information and I can then start pulling it to pieces and crying bullshit. What these idiots don't seem to realise is that if they kill this article and prevent it from being published, there is no way that Nyberg can ever completely clear his/her name because there will always be the implication that there may be something even worse in it than what is already known.

I've wondered about that myself, though not with respect to all Butts' defenders. As I said before, it would be valuable to investigate the other participants in the chat logs rather than Butts alone. Not only would that increase the chances of getting someone to roll on Butts, but it would also reinforce the legitimacy of the accusations: It's not just an attack on Butts because we're going after everyone involved regardless of GG affiliation. I think that's one place where this campaign has fallen short, by the way... even if Butts is clearly the most identifiable (if only based on site ownership).

On the other hand, if Butts has dirt on them they should certainly be doing some classical game theory analysis in their own heads, and consider coming forward to the police in order to secure a lighter punishment rather than going for broke. But who knows.

I think the primary force at work here is SJW wagon circling.

Yeah. There are definitely better ways to go after blowing it in the big leagues. One guy I know played for a season, went back to law school, and is a lawyer at one of the largest worldwide biglaw firms now.
